I thought kauaiboy said the player was blonde.
I could be wrong about this. I don't know where I got the "blonde" reference.

View AttachmentDoes anyone think that Stranzali could be the new player? I rewatched the UCLA match to hear the story of how she got to UCLA. Chris MacLaughlin: "Her dad is actually my son Spencer's coach in Greece, playing professionally. I came up to visit in Greece and her dad came up to me and said "You know I got a daughter who is pretty good." So Spencer immediately got ahold of Dave Shoji and said, "Dave, I got this girl in Greece who is pretty good. I thought she was a good player as well." So her father said, "You know I don't think I can let her go to Hawaii, its exactly around the world. Too far for me. But we can go to the West Coast."" She is off the UCLA roster and things could have changed so her coming wouldn't surprise me. Volleyballfreak808, you may have hit it right on. Putting it all together the UCLA and UC Irvine colors are the same and the poster thought he saw her in Irvine colors with the UC.... lettering. Olga has been back home in Greece since middle of March though.

A lot of people said pre injury, she was pretty fantastic and if she can get back to that form, she could be a solid OH. But hawaii is LOADED already at almost every position. So Regardless of who the transfer is, it will be a great year for the wahine

why is everyone make such a big deal out of tai's personal decision to sit sunday matches, something shes done for the last 3 years? im not worried at all. we have great players coming in who will be able to contribute just as much or maybe even more. it's not our place to question someone's religious beliefs whether they stand true to it or not. I agree that this is her decision to make and I can respect that. OTOH, if I'm Shoji that means that she's forfeiting her staring position. I'd rather spend my time developing a player who's available to play all the time.

If the Sabbath thing is indeed important to her, the decision between starting vs. Sabbath observance is easy. Sabbath wins. If she sacrifices her beliefs for volleyball, that speaks volumes about her beliefs. Even if senior day is on a Sunday, Sabbath should still win. You're not allowed to observe the Sabbath only if it's convenient for you.

You're not allowed to observe the Sabbath only if it's convenient for you. What I find confusing is that the Sabbath is actually Saturday and not Sunday. Sunday isn't the 7th day of a week, but rather the 1st day of the week. The Sabbath was also something that the Biblical God gave to Israel for the Israelites to observed too. Exodus 31:16–17 -- 16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Look at the men's side, had Siki not nden injured, we might not know how good Hartley could be.

I'll jump in and say that I'll agree with other posters that it is simply an opportunity for others to get playing time. Olevao knew this when she started and it happens that there are a number of Sunday matches this season. If she loses her starting spot to another player, it simply means that she has to ride the bench or come in as a back up.
I will also say that I'm not sure why Olevao is getting all the criticism. Yes, she is very inconsistent. But last season, she was supposed to be a redshirt sophomore. She came in as a "project player" and burned her redshirt year when Hawaii needed her after Croson got suspended in the middle of the conference season. She didn't come in as a highly rated prep player who was supposed to contend for a starting job. I don't know what Shoji's exact plan was for her, but when last year's offense was supposed to revolve around Taylor, Olevao stepped in to try to be the go to player, which may be more than what would be expected of her.
I also think it's fair to assume she is done with volleyball after her college career. Hawaii has had a number of great players come through who turned pro after their time in college. With Olevao's beliefs, a career as a professional player is highly unlikely. So, while not an ideal situation for her to sit as a senior, I don't see it affecting her future plans as it would affect other players.
