Oh no. This is really too bad. Impact to the team aside, I hate it when a player's career is cut short by injury like that.

What a damn shame. Erin seems like such a good kid too. Really wanted to see the sisters together. Bummed.
that said, I never really counted Erin among the DS's as I never saw her play there. Sheff is gonna have one of the hitters (outside of Bates and Kriskova) play defence a far bit I imagine.
Does Maddie move to a schollie? Can we transfer this late in the season? Is Hannah healthy enough?

Ugh, she seems like such a good kid... and definitely a good sport to go from starting at LB to injury to 2nd/3rd setter at Wisconsin. Maybe she's interested in student coaching which would be awesome. I can only wish her all the happiness and healthiness in life after graduation.

Is Hannah healthy enough? I also wanted to see the Juleys play together, if only because in interviews they have both said they were looking forward to playing together, never having had the opportunity. I also never counted Erin among the DSs. She was a backup setter who occasionally came in to serve in games. This probably doesn't change anything for Maddie because we were never sure that Erin was on schollie. We had one scholarship freed when Graff retired, and two transfers come in. One of them would've had to have walked on, and we were working under the assumption that it was Romana who got the schollie, and Erin was the walk-on. It's too late to get a transfer who could play spring ball because classes are in full swing. There will be no spring matches or anything, anyway, per the article, becuase we don't have enough people. We can get a transfer to come for the fall, but she'd probably have to be a walk-on. Both Erin and Romana's transfers were announced in mid to late spring, so it's absolutely not too late for that. Hannah seems healthy enough. She's playing club, and she's out in Colorado Springs trying out with USAVB this weekend. It'd've been nice for her to redshirt a year for development, given that she missed her whole junior year of high school from injury, but that won't happen now unless Sheff lands us a walk-on transfer setter. How many kids have the talent to play at Wisconsin and are also willing to transfer into LC's shadow? Erin was in a unique situation coming out of Long Beach, and the odds of finding something similar are probably low. So next year's depth chart looks like this. S: LC, H. Juley OH/RS: Bates, Duello, Kriskova, Fricano, Saunders MB: Nelson, Blake, Morgan, Williams DS/L: Morey, MacDonald, Smith

Lots of guy club members. You still have #1 and she is the best at what she does and a coach that does a pretty darn good job at galvanizing his teams. Kriskova will actually be a RS JR.
I agree, I hope Juley can be a student assistant. She always seemed like a good presence.
So, to review, for the fall we have coming in: 1 S/OH coming in who was likely to redshirt. (Juley) 1 MB coming off injury who was cleared to play at the end of the season (Morgan) 1 MB coming off some vague ankle injury - don't know if she will miss spring club ball (Williams) 2 OH (Saunders, Duello) 1 L/DS (MacDonald) 1 DS/OH (Smith)
I wonder if when the coaches were alerted to the earlier post of "where's Juley" that they decided to send out an article. If so, thanks!
In other news, sometimes I park next to Gary White when I go to the Shell (he's got a yellow jeep according to twitter). Since I have a volleyball sticker on my rear windshield, I keep hoping he'll put a nice note on my car when he leaves. So far, nothing!
I guess with 5 in the gym they are doing drills and pepper. And not much else. They've been in there at night, I can tell because I hear college kid music when I walk by.
I hope we get at least some stories from the tryouts for our "spring" volleyball fix. I say "spring" because for most of the country east of the Mississippi it doesn't seem anywhere near.

Am I a volleyball addict because I am considering asking my folks to drive me to Gainesville for Florida-FSU spring volleyball when I am down there? It would also be an opportunity to get stuff from the oriental market and Trader Joe's, and it is only about an hour drive.

So who else of the incoming class is playing club this spring, or rather, who isn't? And has anyone actually seen any stories about Tionna's injury? I have only heard what I read on this board. Sheff often talks about Spring as the time they work on building up individual players platforms physically and skillwise. He focuses on the team play in summer...based on what he said. So I think matches aren't so important in Spring. I agree with gobucky though...it will be hard to get through this ridiculous winter without a little vball.

Which would you prefer to be called...a volleyball addict or a Trader Joe's addict?

Madison has a Trader Joe's on Monroe down from the Field House. I can walk there. My parents live in Florida in the winter, though, and they are now able to get it in Gainesville, an hour away, which is a recent development. Before, the nearest one was in Jacksonville, I think. I am glad that they have a lot of things and usually nice weather, but I don't know how you can live an hour away from such necessities as a good Oriental Market and a Trader Joe's. It may take me a half hour to get there, but that is because I prefer to walk on weekends.

I remember when they first opened that whole foods, i think one of the first in the country. Rainbowspouse was one of the original employees of the Madison Trader Joe's when it first opened. It was a pretty decent place to work, with health insurance for part-time staff (pre-ACA), and a nice employee discount. We gave bottles of Two Buck Chuck* as wedding favors. *It's only actually in the $2 range in Cali, where it's produced. It's a dollar more in the other states because of distribution costs.

The term "oriental" may not seem degrading, but it's much more culturally acceptable to refer to something as an Asian market, or better yet, the actual country market (Korean, Thai, Japanese, etc) if you know which it is. I'm going to get myself back to a caucasian market as soon as I can the next time I can. As for your passion for Trader Joe's, I share it.
