They pulled it out and took set two. So Broendby's up 2-0. On to set 3!

Did anyone else just lose the stream?

I think Broendby won. The stream cut out, but they were ahead in the middle of set 3, having won the first two.

Wow...Badgers will be enormous next year. 2 years removed from having a 5-7 outside, 5-11 middle and 6-0 setter playing RS, the Badgers will likely start: S-Carlini 6-2 OH-Duello, 6-3 OH-Bates- 5-11 MB: Williams -6-3 MB: Nelson- 6-3 RS: Kriskova
Backups: Tori Blake 6-3 Brook Morgan 6-5 Julia Saunders 6-3

Getting taller does not necessarily equate to getting better. Agree about Williams, but disagree about Duello. Who would start ahead of her? They're deep in every position except OH.

Who would start ahead of her? They're deep in every position except OH. Exactly. Without a transfer to replace Fricano, our pin hitters are Kriskova, Bates, Duello, Saunders, and Smith. Kriskova will start at RS, and Bates will start at OH. I highly doubt that Smith will play much at OH because Sheff said he's planning to use her mostly as a DS. So that leaves Duello and Saunders to compete for L2. StarRingo, do you think Saunders is going to win the starting spot?

I have seen Smith play numerous times in HS and Club as our HS and Club play them during the season(s). She has a long way to go to be an effective DS in college. I'm not saying she isn't capable of being a DS but in my opinion she has a lot of work to do and I'm sure she will put that work in it just is going to take some time. It is nice for her and WI to have the option to play OH in a pinch.

Of course, the other scenario is the Williams moves out wide to compete with Duello and Saunders for L2, and Blake or Morgan fill-in in the middle. That gives us more depth at OH, and it may be enough cover at middle, depending. Blake has been good at middle when we've seen her, we just haven't seen her that often. Will be very interesting to see how she steps up. Some people are high on Morgan, but she is coming off of an injury plagued year so hard to know what we will see.

I think Sheffield sees an athlete, and he thinks athletes can be taught technique. I'm guessing he also sees a good server who could develop into a service specialist with time. It will be real interesting to see how she slots in.

I really don't see Williams going to the pins. I just don't. Not with her speed. Not when we have a setter like LC who can set the middles so well. I agree with badgerbreath. I think Sheff likely saw athletic potential and work ethic in her. It'll be interesting to see how she develops. But to address your point that she's more of an OH than a DS, that may be, but I still don't see her starting over Duello or Saunders in 2015.

Oh, good. Someone else is here to insult Duello too. I would prefer to wait and see. Especially since I was burned by my skepticism about Bates. You are really using your imagination to claim I am insulting anybody. I actually think Duello should be the other LS hitter, but I don't think it happens that way. Just a prediction... Also, the taller comment was more a show of respect for Thomas and Thompson from a year ago. I don't expect their M1 and OP play to be better this year - do you? We'll definitely see a change at RS. Court was a force of nature by the end of last year. I don't know if Kriskova is necessarily less skilled, but Court brought a unique set of abilities to the table as RS, and Kriskova will bring different abilities, so there will be a large adjustment. As for middle, I predict that Tionna will catch up by the end of the year. You still haven't answered my question, StarRingo. Assuming Bates is the L1, who do you think will start at L2 instead of Duello? Do you think Saunders beats her out?

I'm not sure why, but everyone seem to think Kriscova will move to the RS. She's largely an OH hitter, despite playing 1 season on the right in colleague. Morgan and Saunders both have a lot experience on the right are what, 6'5 and 6'4? I'm sure Duello being 6'2 with a 30 inch vert. could be really effective here too.
Shef may want the experience to be on the OH.

Shef may want the experience to be on the OH. Everyone seems to think Kriskova will move to the RS because that's the plan that's been discussed in the news. "But as spring workouts progressed it became apparent that Romana Kriskova, who sat out the past season because of a knee injury after transferring to UW from VCU, had moved ahead of [Fricano] in the competition to take over [Courtney] Thomas’ spot on the right side."Read more: host.madison.com/sports/college/volleyball/badgers-volleyball-freshman-taylor-fricano-to-transfer/article_2e4909a2-8a56-5f67-a91d-22cf08c7b62c.html#ixzz3Wpd0dtqC
