Go to the Stat line of of the last 3 matches of the year. Utah, Wash and BYU. While Katie as the "go-to" player is receiving the highest amount of attempts the ratio of spreading the wealth is pretty close. Against Utah she 5 players are in the double digit attempts Fien at 50 and Katie at 44. Against Washington also 5 players in double digit attempts. K. 47, Fine at 37 and Amber at 30. Against BYU 4 players in double digit attempts K. At 41 and Amber and Fien at 27 and 28. As an OH1 you should face a few more Doubles and more oss sets but the dispersion of sets was not as much of a difference.....imo...that go-to player would normally see. If the future success is balanced on her then hopefully some growth is achieved. I wish her well. I think youre assertion that she is seeing a "few more doubles" is a pretty significant understatement. I think we are in total agreement about her as a player, I just think we are in total disagreement regarding the number of times teams are just releasing blockers to her. No worries. Well maybe teams will hold and not release on the double block when they have Holman to worry about next ....I mean in 2016. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

If Hunter is just a little better setting the middle, and Kadie, Amber, and the middles make strides in the spring, Nebraska could be significantly better than the team they were last year. I dont think it requires any of those players being remarkably better Certainly if they do improve to that level, they are going to be really good. I think it is a team that could win the league and get to the FF, not sure they could win it.

After reading from Akbar's first post down, and remembering back of the last two years I have two conclusions and don't know if one is correct, a combination of both, or neither is correct. 1. The setting was not as average or subpar as some folks have suggested, and Kadie is a very good 6 rotation player, but has been inconsistent as an attacker and had matches were she has been dominant, and some matches where she has been error prone. Last year she had to take on the role of "go to" player with the departure of Robinson and that is a lot of pressure for a sophomore on a relatively young team. She is an elite talent that has not played to her potential (has played well at top level) but still has two years to get there. 2. The setting has impacted the consistency of the entire team and opponents knew Nebraska was going Outside with majority of sets and game planned for that last year. Kadie overcame this because of her talent, but it still effected her consistency. Having a new setter this year that has the ability to distribute the ball and better location with benefit all the front row. If this is the case, Kelsey Robinson should have been NPOY two years ago because she was not only the best defensive OH in the country, but overcame all the setting issues and was still terminal from front and back row. (I do realize she probably had learned to adjust to Pollmiller from time at Tenn.) Well Said! A combination I think. There wasn't a lot of respect of NE's middle attack, so Mary went to the constant dumping in order to hold the opposing middle. And even still the opposing middles released early which caused Mary's kills to go up. During the season there were quite a few trap sets that led to a player rushing forward to push a ball over or taking a full swing into the block. But in Mary's defense; in order for her to be her best, NE's passing had to be there, which sometimes wasn't the case - as in most losses. Borrowing an expression from DOT; Kadie will be "fine". She has all the shots, and IMO was the most 'polished' freshman outside I've seen come into NE.

I remain suspicious of Nebraska setting becoming so much better next year. Just don't see a player sitting on the bench for TWO years if she would be making that kind of a difference. Maybe she can locate the backset better, but there will be commensurate trade-offs. Foecke may have more to do with being better than any setting change. Yes , Mikaela Foecke is a special player, and along with the defensive addition of Kenzie Maloney. Does any other school have 2 Liberos on scholarship? As far as Kelly Hunter; she's been at the practices and started half the matches on the Japan/China trip. Kudos and respect to John Cook for honoring his commitment to his Senior. I don't think I would have been able to. For those interested; Nebraska v Hangzhou - Night 2 (Kelly Hunter #3). Link: A fun watch. It will let you brush up on your Chinese. This match was pre-2014 recruiting class, and was also broadcast all across China! *This is only the first 2 sets in a 5 set rematch from the previous night. The Huskers lost the previous days first match in 5, but won this second rematch in 5. The opponent won the "Chinese Volleyball Association National Championship" last season, but I'm sure wasn't at full strength at this time. Still...

She's also the type of player who hits .294 against Texas with 21 kills, .400 against a higher-ranked Minnesota team, .341 against Wisconsin with 19 kills, .333 against Oregon with 15 kills, and .258 against PSU with 12 kills. There are other examples to prove both of our points, but keep in mind that she faced a double and triple block all season Katie hit .114 , 13kills and 8 errors and then hit.000 all against PSU the two times they met this year. Facing double and triple blocks all season is a stretch big time. the numbers just keep equating to a player who just doesn't live up to what so many people are waiting for or defending. Potential ....yes. It's KADIE.

If that is the case with PSU how do they keep 11 or more quality OH, M, RS, and setters on the team? They usually have a couple front row players on the bench that are not even in the rotation that were top recruits for their class, and an occasional red-shirt like Nia Reed who was on scholarship last year.

Maybe she can locate the backset better, but there will be commensurate trade-offs. Foecke may have more to do with being better than any setting change. Put it this way: Hunter, who didn't arrive to Lincoln until a month before fall camp began, was solid enough to start along a 2-year veteran setter in a 6-2 to measure the setting and the completely new cast of hitters. At the beginning of the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Cook talked about how Hunter is good enough to start and make an impact since she beat Mary in a lot of different metrics in practice—which I thought was telling of a true freshman against a junior. What ultimately gave Mary the edge in 2013 was her 2-year connection with Robo, who got the majority of the team's sets and went on to be the most prolific player in the B1G that season. Last fall, Hunter wowed a lot of ppl in the red-white scrimmage, and her white team (Nebraska’s B-team) won both sets with her setting, and when she switched to the red team with the starters, they lost the third set but finally won the last one, so her teams were 3-1. Cook said in interviews that Kelly had been beating Mary in a lot of metrics in practice and how she has sound fundamentals, etc., so it was surprising to see Kelly was going to redshirt and Mary was going to start in the first match against FSU. In the end, I believe Cook chose Mary, because over the entire season from the FSU match to last month's banquet, he and the entire team talked about how Mary works the hardest in practice and provides that type of motherly senior leadership for the younger players. Moreover, Kelly is the type of person to sacrifice a year and redshirt to let Mary have the reigns her senior year and to get even better. She now has the next 3 years to set the team, and it will be invaluable having her senior leadership in the year after the Rolfzens and JWO graduate.

Kudos and respect to John Cook for honoring his commitment to his Senior. I don't think I would have been able to. I kind of wish Lauren redshirted to let Sydney, who had just set the team to the FF the prior season, run a 5-1 in her senior year. It effectively would have given Lauren the chance to set Robo and the twins.

It's going to be refreshing to have a 6-0 setter, especially one who takes the ball over on two with some authority. She was easily the best blocker of that match--even if it was against a weaker and shorter Chinese pro team. I wonder if the fans there understood that the libero can serve in the NCAA? ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Speaking of setters, both recruits Brooke Smith and Hunter Atherton have some pretty wicked jump serves!

Interesting that Foecke is listed at Outside Right. I wonder if that's her preference.

Go Briana! Nice to see that she gets to play competitively where she can't be stopped by LSU!
