Not saying Micah doesn't deserve it, so don't twist my words here. I am just curious how many National Player of the Year winners didn't even win their conference Player of the Year. rare ... but i believe it's happened a couple of times. 2010 -- carli lloyd was NPOY, and alex klineman was the pac-12 POY 2005 -- christina houghtelling was NPOY, and sarah pavan was the big-12 POY

Big Ten POY went to the one who won conference. If PSU has won Big 10, Hancock could have won. Just like if Carlini won regional final, she could have won NPOY. To the winner go the spoils.

I think you'd have to ask the B1G what they were thinking. But in fairness, they had to pick their conference player of the year before the NCAA tournament based on conference regular season. And Wisconsin won the B1G. Carlini was deserving and given that Wisky won the conference you couldn't argue that Hancock was more deserving. So really in a way it worked out for the best. Not saying Micah doesn't deserve it, so don't twist my words here. I am just curious how many National Player of the Year winners didn't even win their conference Player of the Year.

congrats to hancock ... i love it when setters get the award, as they are sometimes overlooked for NPOY honors. she's an impact player. i hope to see her game, particularly her serve, transition to the int'l level.

Kind of amazing that Micha as NPOY and Frantti as NFOY were NOT the BigTen POY's. I think that it just shows the quality of play in the BT. I am so so happy for Micha. Much deserved.

And as to victor went the spoils when Wisconsin won title (deservedly so) PSU players getting same treatment. Micha was as deserved as any player in the country, she is a total game changer. I can't imagine VanSant and Carlini are sitting there going "WHAT?"

didn't realize until last night that she had verbal-ed to Tulsa and wasn't apparently a highly recruited setter. Now she's NPOY. Hard to believe she'd have had the same career playing for Tulsa. Well-deserved and going to miss watching her play next year! Hope to see that serve for the Olympic team someday! She was highly recruited or would have been if she hadn't committed to Tulsa. She played in the Under Armour HS game featuring many of the top HS recruits, so you are pretty much on everyone's radar screen if you show up there.

The commitment to Tulsa made it seem as though there weren't a lot of other top schools knocking on the door. I'm assuming it must have been a close relationship with the coach who left?

Her older sister played at Tulsa at the time. When Ed Allen left Tulsa to go to Alabama, all bets were off.

Congrats to Micha! Extremely deserving for this award.
Apparently she wins award and gets her bag stolen in the same day. Hopefully that bag didn't have her uniforms in it.

The setter situation at PSU didn't work out with the heir apparent leaving the program (never to resurface in WVB again for some reason). Russ went after Micha and she opted to leave Tulsa, a coaching changed was part of the reason, I believe. She was a hitter on her HS team, not the setter.

B1G congrats to Micha, Russ, and PSU volleyball!
I remember pondering why Rose would sit Carpenter after having just won a national championship, but Micha really developed into a wonderful player. A lot of people thought the award was between Micha and Lauren, so I'm happy to hear people giving the nod to setters!
Since she's graduated and is leaving Happy Valley after the tournament, has she been picked up by any professional teams yet? Does she plan on training this spring with the national team?
