Hawaii appears to be headed for a 0-5 loss to USC today. Not making excuses but Hawaii had to reshuffle their 4th and 5th pairs because of an injury. Spieler/Urban got completely outmatched today. That was the best I have seen Strange play.

Hawaii looked unmotivated at times, which is concerning being that they were opening their new facility on TV.

I just noticed Washington actually kicked off their 2015 season and went 3-0 over the weekend over St. Mary's, Pacific and Sacramento State. Surprised to see Krista Vansant on the team, figured she'd be going pro.

Agreed. Would anyone take Stetson or Georgia State over LBSU or LMU? Pacific would have been in the top ten a week ago based on a tournament in NoCal, but then they came down to play LMU........Long Beach St. plays LMU next Wednesday. Should be a good match. Stetson lost to FSU, 3-2, the same score LMU lost to FSU. Long Beach lost to FSU, 4-1. Georgia State lost to FIU, 3-2, the same score FSU lost to when they played FIU. Looking at the rating number, I think USC might be unbeatable, Hawaii and Pepperdine are pretty close to each other. sportsrankingscentral.comThe more games played, the better and more accurate rankings; we have teams with 6+ and some teams with 2. When everyone has played at least 5 games, the better they will look. Although there is much more equality this year in the East, there is a quite a difference playing FSU with Pardon and one of the Pellitteri sisters in the lineup as it affects their #1s and #3s teams dramatically. LMUs #3s could possibly have changed the outcome against FSU if John Mayer was available to be at courtside that morning at USC as they had no sideline coach for what was a close match. There were a few things that he probably would have corrected if he had been there. Could'a, would'a, should'a....

#1 USC vs #3 Pepperdine is on the PAC-12 networks right now. 4s and 5s on the court now.

Wow, Pepperdine came to play. I thought it would be a down year for them. Will it come down to these two teams again for the championship? Well, Pepperdine still lost. But they've got to like how well their 1s and 2s performed. The Kellies won easily and Strehlow really outplayed Bukovec to close the #2 match. USC won with their depth. These two should be up there in the championship, but the past few years it seems weird things can happen on the way to the final.

Would there be a different outcome if it was played at the beach? I guess we'll find out on April 4th when they meet at Zuma.

Sportsie, ya might just as well put "I don't have a horse in this race" as part of your signature. It'll save ya some time.

More than a few think the closed in courts at USC hurts the Trojans when they play in the wind like at Zuma or Alabama. I happen to agree having been to both Zuma and USC . I also carried a SCVA rating for about twenty years so I think I do have a little understanding about playing in the wind in SoCal. As far as my comment re. not having a bench coach during the match, do you think that the coach might have advised the LMU small to stop shooting seconds over against FSU and set the 6'4 lefty with no block (one out of six 2nds went down) the. #3s could still have lost, as FSUs #3s are very good, but having John Mayer there sure could not have hurt. Ya think?

You posters are funny "Would there be a different outcome if it was played at the beach," and "...could possibly have changed the outcome against FSU if John Mayer was available to be at courtside," I don't have a horse in this race but these excuses for why teams lose are funny. The Mayer comment was a little out there (although "real time" coaching can certainly make a difference...even if relatively few sand coaches are really adept at it ). But weather and sand conditions for any given competition have a major impact on results. There is a significant difference between playing at an on-campus facility with hard packed sand and no wind (like USC or Arizona) and playing on a beach with deep sand and a constant 10-15 MPH breeze coming off the ocean. This is Beach Volleyball 101.

there shouldnt be any excuse for losing...even if u break ur leg and have to forfeit...jus take the lost...admit that the other team was better on that day...,and maybe that they only...but they were....cuz if my aunt had ? she'd be uncle....jus sayn...u win or u learn.... take it as that...no excuses for winning(or is it jus luck wen u win? )u win or u learn...jus regroup...back to the old drawing board...and come back to battle another day...dont make excuses...

Well, if this was directed at me because of my comment regarding LMU not having a bench coach, that is my bad but I did mentioned that the FSU's #3s were a really good team and the bottom line is that FSU was the better team that day. The point I was trying to make was any team not having a bench coach is usually already at a disadvantage if the two teams are fairly equal. Anyway, I just left Playa del Rey after LMU was already down 3-0 to Long Beach State. Long Beach State was very good from their fives up to their ones and controlled the ball well on a fairly windy day. They seemed very well prepared. Not sure how it ended as the 1's and the 2s matches seemed to be pretty close.
