Are you suggesting that Kalinoski will beat out Karelov this season or that Kalinoski will eventually be the libero for Duke?

I would not bet on it but it would be great for Duke if Kelli turned out to be a McCurdy type player - she was one special player.

Kalinoski is very good and will probably play a lot this season, but I don't see her unseating Karelov as starting libero. Regardless, libero will be the least of Duke's worries this season. IMO, the biggest issue will be identifying hitters besides Sklar who can consistently terminate on the pins (I'm hoping Meyer- if healthy- can help here).

Would you count Ambrose as a freshman? I think she will be a stud. Ambrose is a redshirt freshman (transfer from Purdue) . According to ACC officials she will not be eligible for any freshman of the week or ALL ACC freshman team honors come year end. Those honors are for true freshman only. Looking forward to watching her progression as an FSU hitter. IMO she will find playing time as OH only behind Walch and Horton..2016 will be her year..

Given that Karelov led the ACC in digs last season and was second team all ACC as a sophomore, Kalinoski would likely have to be pretty spectacular to take the libero job as a freshman, though I don't think the Duke staff is all that sentimental about past accomplishments. iirc Deichmeister started at setter the year Duke won the ACC then had an injury that led to her being the backup most of last season.

Any thoughts on freshman that could potentially be stars in the conference next year? I don't really know a lot of the freshman coming in for all of the schools. Anna Walsh at Virginia could have a huge impact and Molly Sauer could be impressive. Anyone know why Anna Walsh isn't playing in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Allstar game? I know these things can be political, but she was more than deserving of a spot on the team. Maybe she chose not to participate?

Calling all UNC fans.... How will transfer Taylor Fricano figure into the mix of all this? Not real sure she was ever really given a chance at Wisconsin. I think she is very hungry and wanting to make an immediate impact for Sagula and company. Thoughts ......

Just guessing that she may have enrolled in summer school at UVA to be with team early.

I think she is very hungry and wanting to make an immediate impact for Sagula and company. Thoughts ...... Fricano played mostly Opp at club level, and would have to beat out Taylor Treacy R-Jr who had a very good year last year at that position, and made the USAV Collegiate Team. It's reasonable to assume that at 6'4" she got her chances in pre-season and in the practice gym to beat out a 5'11" OH on the left, so perhaps she's not comfortable there.

I don't think Fricano has even practiced yet at UNC, so it's probably hard to say anything.

surprised no one has mentioned Texas Gatorade POY 2015 commit to Virginia...Anna Walsh...saw her play in HS...a beast...a game changer for the Hoos I think...dont know much about the new coach, just that he has some asst coaches who are animals when it comes to recruiting...constantly on the phone, following recruits, thinking long term etc...any thoughts about their future? While she is a great player, and will be a game changer for Virginia, she was not the Texas Gatorade POY. Enneking who's going to Oklahoma was.

Enneking was the Texas Gatorade player of the year. Walsh was the SportsDay POY which is a DFW area award.

I like the names mentioned. Also, believe that Meyers for Duke will be a standout. Also possible that Kelli Kalinoski will take the libero spot at Duke but not sure she will make the all freshman team. I think that Mhairi Agnew will be very strong for Miami even though she is a little undersized for a middle. Also excited to see what Jaila Tolbert does at Virginia Tech. VT seems good at developing players and they have some good raw athleticism to work with in Tolbert. I agree with you on Agnew at Miami. Unfortunately she backed out. So UM signed a freshman to replace her who likely isn't a DI player, and certainly not a middle. Athletic, not overly tall (5'11" i think), and really hasn't been dedicated to volleyball. Gotta be really disappointing to coaching staffs when players transfer, withdraw, etc.
