Credit goes to former assistant coach Jayme Gergen whom secured Donnelly and Prince both in her first week on the job. But of course, she is gone now, and therefore Hambly gets the credit. Yeah, I'm sure Hambly had nothing to do with those two committing to Illinois

How would an assistant "secure" a player in her first week on the job? Doesn't the recruiting process typically take much longer than a week?

Gergen was hired as the recruiting coordinator and within a week of her hiring both of those recruits popped up as being committed as per richkern.com. Hambly is obviously the face of the program and gets the credit, but my point is that a lot of the recruiting deals with the connections made with the assistants. Ask any player who has ever been recruited. They typically make their strongest connection with the assistant.

Whew! I'm just glad they did not de-commit when Coach Gergen left the program!
Any word on winter/spring workouts and practices?

They rarely have "extensive" contact with coaches who were hired a week before the commitment.

It just doesn't happen that way. I can't envision how a new assistant hire makes a difference that quickly. My guess is the timing was coincidental at best. Both recruits were interested in Illinois before she was hired.

Is there a list anywhere that shows who is committed or offered to Illinois for 2016,2017,2018. Is there usually a few walk ons each year as well?

Lots of club shifting this year. Beth Prince and Jacqueline Quade both play for Munciana 18s Samarai. Undefeated so far this year, and have only lost one set. Marijke Van Dyke now plays for Sports Performance 16 Elite. They list her vertical at 10’2”. Kaylin Korte plays for First Alliance 17 Silver. Her vertical is listed as 10’0”. Alison Bastianelli still plays for Legacy. Her vertical is listed as 10'3". I think the future is bright.

Thanks for the update, oldman. Illinois is set (pun totally intended) on the outside for the next few years. We need an outstanding middle or two in the 2016 and/or 2017 classes.

Its been a while, and my daughter played club, not open, but I wonder what we would have thought if we had shown up at a 16s tournament and run into someone touching 10'2" like Marijke Van Dyke. Wow.
