On the plus side, it's a long season.
On the minus side, it may be a LONG season.

So, what are the odds now that Hofstra pulls an 'upset'?

So, what are the odds now that Hofstra pulls an 'upset'? Hofstra beat St. John's and is probably better than Duke, so I'm going to say it's a possibility unless Oregon has a big emotional and mental readjustment in the next few hours. Outscored Duke 115-99 and lost the match.

They should be doing better, fewer mistakes, cleaner play, better blocking, better setting, better passing; just not consistently there...

They should be doing better, fewer mistakes, cleaner play, better blocking, better setting, better passing; just not consistently there... A lot of mistakes. We have been running 7 freshmen, 1 sophomore, and 1 senior so I guess youthful mistakes should be expected, but we're not responding to them well and getting more conservative and forcing things more. The blocking I have no idea. We have a senior AA middle jumping with backrow setters (I get potential mistakes focusing on DiMaulo given the scouting report, but Duke is running a 6-2!) and losing her middle not just in transition but in sideout. At this point, Ducks need to go home and reset. Losing Borup and Johnson is losing our Top 2 pin hitters and better servers (plus a primary passer) but I think more important than that is the experience and the confidence to take big swings in tough moments and someone we have confidence giving those swings to.

A lot of the freshman are just not ready yet... If BVS, Rass, and Tastad didn't leave, they probably would have been playing. Especially now.

USC and OR both need a spanking. VARIOUS GIRLS: Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. GALAHAD: Zoot! DINGO: No, I am Zoot's identical twin sister, Dingo. GALAHAD: Oh, well, excuse me, I-- DINGO: Where are you going? GALAHAD: I seek the Grail! I have seen it, here in this castle! DINGO: Oh no! Oh, no! Bad, bad Zoot! GALAHAD: What is it? DINGO: Oh, wicked, bad, naughty Zoot! She has been setting alight to our beacon, which, I just remembered, is grail-shaped. It's not the first time we've had this problem. GALAHAD: It's not the real Grail? DINGO: Oh, wicked, bad, naughty, evil Zoot! Oh, she is a naughty person, and she must pay the penalty -- and here in Castle Anthrax, we have but one punishment for setting alight the grail-shaped beacon. You must tie her down on a bed and spank her! GIRLS: A spanking! A spanking! DINGO: You must spank her well. And after you have spanked her, you may deal with her as you like. And then, spank me. VARIOUS GIRLS: And spank me. And me. And me. DINGO: Yes, yes, you must give us all a good spanking! GIRLS: A spanking! A spanking!

Even though the class looks heavily skewed towards freshman, Oregon does have multiple classes of good recruits on the floor. Something does seem off though, even when they first started the year. Even the first match they lost, it felt like Robinson was specifically back-setting to Johnson, ALL.THE.TIME. And this was with Georgia Murphy's passes going backwards by the way. So it's trying to play volleyball the hard way. I'm just thinking maybe the two matches were a little too short to be prepped for the gauntlet of the east coast trip. Unfortunately Oregon has been traditionally known to be emotionally across all sports, so we might have interesting season up ahead.
