the cases for those named above has been made, so here are a few other thoughts.
Anybody - The numbers mentioned for UW, if I can trust volleytalk (and of course you can!) were around $273k base and $314k for making the final four last year. They drew over 8,000 fans for the Stanford game, which was larger than any women's basketball game and most of the men's basketball games so if you assume Washington is willing to pay to keep the program at an elite level they could make someone "an offer they can't refuse" - which of course they didn't do convincingly for JMac so maybe not likely, but it's not impossible.
Salima - I just assume she gets offered every job.
Tom Black - If he gets credit for helping USA win the World Cup, that's worth a few national championships as an AC, right? He's been solid in college, but probably wouldn't have the resume for this job unless you consider his USA experience. He's GM2. But to take the job he'd likely have to leave Team USA and give up his shot at a gold medal.
Santiago Restrepo - As we've mentioned on other threads, the Washington SWA, the last time she hired a volleyball coach, hired Santiago. That may not mean that much, and I can't imagine him leaving Oklahoma but people have done stranger things for money.
Mark Rosen - Before becoming a Final Four coach with a demonstrated talent for beating Stanford, Rosen was the coach at Cal St Bakersfield, and Boise State, and he was an assistant in his hometown at Alaska Anchorage (think he knows his way through the Seattle airport?). His wife is from Wasilla, Alaska (hometown of Sarah Pallin). Big picture - facilities, fan base, etc - Michigan is maybe 7-8th in the Big 10 at this point? Shondell isn't leaving Indiana, Hugh isn't leaving Minnesota, but Michigan to UW? I think most people would make that move.
Chris Poole - Would he move to Seattle? I don't know but leaving Arkansas was the hard part. If McLaughlin is coming to take over the ACC, why not go take his program at Washington. Poole is enough of a brainiac that he might be tempted to match wits with the Pac 12. His talent for attracting and winning with internationals is also what brought Washington their only national title. Like Rosen, he's a final four coach who's been more consistently successful than Rosen.
Left Field candidates
Dennis Janzen - Yes he's retired, and 63 years old. He also has 867 wins, 6 national titles, a PhD in Sports Psych, 9 years as an AD and he is currently in Seattle as the Volunteer at Western Washington. I get why he might not be your first choice candidate but he's in town, have him come over for lunch and pick his brain about whatever for an hour or so.
Doug Reimer - Never gonna happen, but I think it would be interesting. Reimer has won 6 College National Championships in a row - in Canada. Reimer is up the road at the University of British Columbia. 18 seasons winning at an 80% clip. The international game, the Canadian schedule - there are a million differences but he's been winning college women's volleyball championships 2h 30 min away.
