Natalia MIGHT be able to replace her, but she's such a liability in the backrow that I wouldn't hold my breath. Completely disagree about Gabi. She was extremely over-hyped on this board. She's a nice player, but she's got a lot of growing to do before she can replace Fe Garay. Gabi is undoubtedly Brazil's next star, and she'll likely provide steady passing and digging in the '16 Olympics like Paula provided in '08 and '12. Keep in mind that the team doesn't have Fabi to share backcourt responsibilities, so a player with Gabi's defensive skill set will be a huge asset for the Brazilians as they move forward with Brait. Sorry, but nothing about her play makes me believe she's going to be their next big star. Her passing and defense are pretty good, but her offense leaves much to be desired. She's not on Paula's level.

Technically Chisovnik was correct about Paula not being at Gabi's level. Gabi is ranked #1 in attacking, while Paula is at #25. Gabi also has twice as many blocks as Paula and leads in every other category (serving, passing, digging) against her. Like I said, Gabi will be one of the top candidates for OH leading up to Rio (and beyond).

She didn't play in the first match when Sesi swept them, but she started in the second round, in which her team lost again.

She's not on Paula's level. Is Paula even playing? Paula's definitely not as good as she was in 2012. She's not even in the question for Rio. I'd definitely take Gabi before her. I don't know, I really hope she proves me wrong, but when I think about the top outside hitters in the world, I think of Kim, De La Cruz, Costagrande, Jaque, etc. Right now, she's not at that level.

You just said Gabi isn't on Paula's level, but now you would "definitely take Gabi before her?" Seems a little inconsistent, Chis... Also, if you really want her to prove you wrong, check out her season for Rexona. Most matches are uploaded on Youtube if you couldn't catch them live. Check them out, man. You'll come to see that she's the clear favorite for 'liga MVP (or best OH) and doing much better than Jaque, Paula, Tandara, and Natália.

Superliga semis are set: Rio x Minas and SESI x Osasco. Minas beat Praia Clube 3-0 on game #3, and SESI beat Brasília 3-1 on game #2 of the quarters.
Now, about Gabi, she is definitely not even close to Paula's level in 2008. I see Gabi as our new Sassá. A great player who will be important to the team, but we should find better players and not rely on her to lead the team after the OG. I wish she was taller, that'd be helpful.
Also, it surprises me that so many of you think Paula was great in 2012. She was OK, IMO, and she was pissed off at Zé when Garay took her spot... Hahaha! Oh, and she has no chance of being in Rio. Neither her or Zé want that.
I hope the first list of players is released next week, now that the quarters are finished.

So Bia isn't really that interested in the national team, think she'll get another chance with players being rested? She is def. talented, good attacking and holds her own blocking. Hey, give us your thoughts on Webster. Just watched her sub in late during a quarterfinal match and she looked pretty good. Ramirez is Ramirez, but Webster looked like she should be on the floor. Were all bugging you because your our new Brasil Connect lol Wow! I only caught this now, sorry. I think Webster's good, but she barely plays. She should stay here, but go to a team where she could play more often.

Why are you posting so authoritatively when you're clearly not even paying attention.

Gabi is going to have a very nice future on the Brazilian NT. However, I can't see her having the kind of success Paula, Fe Garay, and Jaque had/are having. Sorry about your butthurt.

...and if she completely proves me wrong, I'm totally cool. I've got no horse in the race. I just don't see it happening.

If it's true we'll have two different teams for the PanAm Games and WGP, and assuming each one has 14 players, and that Sheilla, Fabiana, Thaisa, Jaque, Fê Garay and Tandara won't play most, if any, matches, Zé will probably pick 28 players out of this list:
S (4): Dani Lins, Fabíola, Macris, Ana Tiemi, Juma, Naiane, Claudinha
OPP (4): Rosamaria, Bárbara, Paula, Natália, Joyce, Monique, Andréia Laurence
MB (8): Adenizia, Bia, Angélica, Carol, Mara, Letícia Hage, Natasha, Carla, Juciely, Natália Martins
OH (8): Gabi, Michelle, Suelle, Ellen, and I cannot think of anyone else, which is soooo depressing!
L (4): Camila Brait, Suelen, Tassia, Léia
Can you name someone else? I really don't remember any other players. Maybe one or two players from the youth NT will be there, but I doubt it. Man, how I wish Brazil had the same amount of good players you guys have!
