Don't forget that the east coast teams play school ball in the fall. The teams that attend SCVA are coming straight from HS season and are playing together for the first time.
From what I've seen, BRYC, LIVBC and MVC are all solid teams who have the potential to make noise in Columbus. The Rochester area 15's teams are not as strong as their older teams so not sure just how good the Durham team is.

Are there any wild card teams from the East Coast or Midwest that have a chance to place well in Columbus? The powerhouses from the midwest are MVC, Ultimate and HPSTL. When HPSTL came to the SCVA qualifier, they played four open teams - HBC, 949, Seaside, and Spike & Serve. They took a set from HBC and Seaside, almost took a set from 949, but they got blown out by SASVBC. From the East Coast, the top teams are BRYC, LIVBC and Pace. When LIVBC came to the SCVA qualifier, they got blown out by MB SURF and Seaside, and lost to HVA 151 PERFORMANCE. If I had to pick one non California/Hawaii/Puerto Rico team to be a wildcard at nationals (like how Victor 16's was last year) I would probably pick either MVC or Durham. Durham did not lose a set in the Rochester qualifier, and they have some pretty tall guys. MVC has a solid setter and a pretty good outside (#6 Steven Bresser) so I could see them surprising some teams. We will get a good sense of how MVC fares against better opponents when they come to the SCVA Classic in June and have to face HBC, MB SURF, 949 and Pali. Odds are that the winner of 15 Open will either be a top California team (MB SURF, HBC, Pali, 949), Torrimar (2nd place in 14 Open) or Spike & Serve (1st place in 14 Open)Yeah 949 is gonna do well and Spike and serve. I'm betting Gold: Spike and Serve Silver:949 Bronze: Torrimar/HBC

What qualifier does Torrimar go to? And MB Surf is right up there with Spike and Serve. Only dropped 1 set in the SCVA qualifier and that was to Seaside who also could be in the medal picture.

Itterestingly, they are not showing as having a bid yet (per USAV site) and there is only one qualifier left. Looking at AES, they are not listed under the teams going to East Coast Ch. Are they planning on getting an at large bid?

Just an FYI - They do not even use the AES ranking system to seed nationals or any qualifiers. They only pull the W/L information. Because that system does not take into account what types of events people play in.

I was at the Dale Rhode Tournament today and I got a little glimpse of MVC 15s(playing up in the 18's Division), and they were looking like a very solid team. Should be hard to beat at nationals. Mountain View kinda blows

Not sure you can use this tournament as a benchmark for how a team will do at Nationals. Overall, the field was not strong. Based on the posted results, it didn't appear that MVC 15's did anything out of the ordinary that would indicate their superiority. I'd wait and see how they do at SCVA in June.

I think people are forgetting about the freshmen who are playing up a year in 16s and the freshman who even made their varsity teams,
Max (I don't know his last name) Outside Hitter for Mira Costa. He's 6' but the kid jumps out of the gym, from what I saw of him he could play for any kid on Mira Costa. I think currently he is serving specialist.
Tim Baldwin starting Opposite on Newbury Park (Doesn't see the ball much). 6'5" doesn't get set much and he comes out when its time to go back row. Personally I think he could play in the back row, but I think Newbury's coach is playing the senior card on him and a senior comes in for him. (I don't know if the setting thing is his setter playing favorites because the majority of the team is from Bones 18s.)
anyone else know any freshman playing on varsity?

Max Cajuste of Mira Costa was on JV all year. He got worked by Loyola when I saw them in the Redondo JV Tournament. The freshman that impressed me during that game was 6'3 Middle Blocker named Jaxon Drake from Loyola, who plays SG Elite 15s as on OH. I'm pretty confident that he'll be playing MB Surf on Max Cajuste's team next year. He made the A-1 team this year. SG elite is a very good team. I can't believe that middle is switching clubs they can defiently use his height tho

Just based off what we have seen so far this season, who is projected to make all tourney team for 15s? I gotta say a handful of Pali kids and a handful of 949 kids
