Unless you're a health care provider, HIPPA doesn't prevent you from answering the question.

There's no such thing as HIPPA, so you're correct there. HIPAA may not apply to USAVB because they may not be a "covered healthcare provider." If they don't bill insurance, they're likely not obligated under HIPAA. www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/HIPAA-Administrative-Simplification/HIPAAGenInfo/Downloads/CoveredEntitycharts.pdfIf USAVB were a covered healthcare provider, then HIPAA would prohibit the trainer, a healthcare provider, from disclosing information to about Burgess's condition to others except for covered reasons (care coordination, research, billing, and public health notifications). It would also prohibit any employees of USAVB from accessing patient info that they don't need to do their job, and from sharing info they have. And even if USAVB isn't obligated under HIPAA, professional ethics pretty much do prohibit the trainer from disclosing this info to anyone who doesn't need it to do their job, and would certainly obligate her to keep her colleagues from spreading it all over the internet without Burgess's consent.

Based on his past posting activity, I'm pretty sure BIP is not the trainer. If he has general (first-hand) knowledge regarding the nature of the injury and is not a "covered healthcare provider", there is nothing in HIPAA that prohibits him from sharing that information. That's the point I was trying to make, and I certainly understand that a multitude of other factors may lead him to withhold the information.

Yeah. A this point, "HIPAA" (or "Hippa" - *cringe*) has become layperson shorthand for "I'm legally, contractually, or ethically prevented from sharing medical information."

Nice to see Kan on the list. As a DS, right?

Any live video stream for the matches?

At this point, no women's matches are scheduled for LiveStream, and ESPN only covered the Men's opening 0-3 loss to the Czech Republic. We're pushing the producers to add a Women's match, especially if they can make the medal rounds, but if anyone has any juice with the ESPN crowd, we could use some help on that side of the Pacific. The ladies open vs. Japan in about an hour here, and hopefully we can show the producers that we're worth at least a digitally broadcast match...
And no, Kan is not on the roster as a DS. I think we'll see quite a bit of her playing (well) on the outside. She was really impressive on the CNT Team that visited China last summer, and yes, even at the net. (I'm clearly a fan)

Set 2
Another Ace(6) at the beginning of set 2 for Micha and a kill. USA loses set two 18-25. Micha still in the lead with 8 points. Paige Tapp and Nicole Walsh both with 7 points.
Set 3
Yet another Ace(7) for Micha at start of set three. USA loses set three 23-25. Top scorer in match so far for USA is Kat Bell with 12 and Micha with 10 points.
Set 4
Micha with another Ace(8). USA loses set four 21-25 and match 1-3. Kat Bell top scorer with 16 points and Nicole Walsh with 12.
Women need to win next match with Finland to have chance of moving on.
