I would rather Team USA have a pin point passer for the next Olympics. Seems what we need desperately. But are there any prospects that fall into that category?

More so than a libero who can pass better, I think Team USA needs two more in starting 6 who can pass AND hit as well as 1-2 players like this on the bench. In this OG tourney, Ah Mow was the setter who had to run around the most according to friends who watched most of the matches and with that kind of passing you need a Kirillova to compete for gold.

>-(Gorf)-<[} link=board=general&thread=1093419964&start=88#5 date=1093617708]While watching the various matches via the live stats during the Olympics it looked as though Stacy had been receiving serve with a success percentage that was comparable to some of the better passers on most of the other teams, however, she wasn't being served to nearly as often as Logan or Keba. It seemed that the US opponent's would serve to Logan or Keba then progressively serve to one or the other of those two more often if one of them was passing worse than the other. Stacy had pretty much her worst match on serve receive againt Brazil in the quarters where her success percentage was still slightly above 50%. I don't recall either Keba or Logan having a any matches where they passed even as high as 50%. you are exactly right in your observation about teams serving USA's OH more than sykora. this was also the trend in the grand prix. with a 2 person reception, teams -- russia, germany, italy, brazil and cuba all served tom more than sykora. she was literally passing twice as many balls as stacy in one point. in the oympics, as of the end of pool play, the player who had taken the most service receptions in the entire tournament was tom. even after playing sparingly in the last 2 games against brazil, she still finished with the most passes for the US team. for the olympics, i checked and stacy passed 57.93% effectively, tom was at 53.85% and phipps at exactly 50%. none of them are in the top 10. these numbers were only good enough for 12, 15 and 16. about shashkova, i absolutely agree. she is amazing. as for the position she plays, she is listed as UNIVERSAL. karpol has said that artamanova is the best player he has ever coached. i'd love to know what he thinks of shashkova now too.

Karpol probably prefers Artamonova over Sokolova because he's always had off the court problems with Sokolova whereas this was never the case with Artamonova. At her peak, Artamonova is also as good.

Maybe because Artamanova is prettier too ;D. I watched the 97 Grand Prix final and the 2 chinese commentators keep referring her as the young Russian Beauty. How appropriate
