This is a bunch of talent that USAVB has assembled. Tryout should be intense. Will be interesting to see where Stone puts a couple of the girls. Most of the girls play 17's. Will they be able to handle the tougher serving and bigger block that they will no doubt see? For those few that are playing 18's I would think that they might be a little more prepared for the heat that they will experience. Most all hitters/middles will be flat crushing the ball, but how often do the 17's see it coming back that way? Should be real interesting. Congratulations to them all and GO USA!!! Have you watched the top 17's team in Open? I've seen stronger teams like TAV at 17's than 95% of 18's teams. I am not disagreeing (because I don't know) except to ask if you have traveled around the country to watch all the 18s teams. Also to make a fair comparison it should be against the top 5% of the 18s teams, not the other 95%.

I didn't make that clear earlier but we are talking about athletes and not teams. I would disagree with you that a 17 playing on a top 17 team couldn't hang with an 18 playing on a top 18 team. Sure there may be a year more experience but if you take a team like TAV (I'm not a coach at TAV nor do I have a daughter there) and pick one of their top athletes, add in their schedule where most of their matches are spent against 18's teams or top 17's teams then I don't see much of a drop off in competition. I think the areas you mentioned (tougher serving and bigger block) aren't all that different in 17's or 18's. I would love for someone to do an analysis (I'm not that smart) of the avg. height or reach) of the top 5% of 17's and 18's teams. I would venture to guess that there would be a marginal diff.

I don't know much about the middles going but I would think the lineup will be: OH: Sun and Lanier MB: Stivrins and Butler/Pittman(?) S: Shook Opp: Plummer L: Hentz Oops. Guess you'll have to find another libero. I don't get it. Why can she not still be the Libero?

Interesting that 99.9% on that list are not the top recruits of 2016/2017. If not on the national team, it seems as if the players are electing not to participate in the HP system.

99.9% might be a little off. I can already name 4 big time recruits which are Norris, Cox, Botkin, and May. There are lots of talented girls that only to the National Team programs or don't even try out at all.

I know the perception among our circle of volley-parents is that the A1 & Continental programs were really pricey for what USAV is providing. After a full club season, Nationals, a couple weeks of HS camp and probably a college camp, the $1,400 + travel for 5 days of training and a tournament doesn't make much financial sense. For the top kids who already have a scholarship in hand and get no benefit from the recruiting exposure element of HP, it makes even less sense.

Totally agree, and that is what we share with our players and families.

This team has a lot of talent. Plummer and Sun alone are a force. Add Lanier, Stivrins, Hentz, and a couple more and they have a super solid team
