According the to ronika stone's and lexi sun's twitters the team is leaving on the 31st. Since the pre-world scrimmages go until august 3rd the team should still make it to scrimmage some other teams at least, but it sucks that the original flight was cancelled.

That is so unfortunate. Another reason I loathe United. This is unfortunate but pales compared to the fact that the nation's second highest level program, the Women's Junior National Team, WON'T be competing in the U-20 World Championships due to the FIVB changing location and time due to the crisis in Cyprus. So, yes, I get the frustration, but let's put it in perspective. They are still getting to compete in the World Championships and have been practicing together.

Oh, absolutely agree with you about the WJNT getting the shaft. I was pissed off about that in the WJNT thread. I'll be pissed at United in this thread. ("Don't cross the streams!")

It seems like an epic fail all around. starting with the staff and the traveling schedule. What exactly happened with United?

The problem here is with preparation. In Argentina the team would have had 3 to 4 days of practice. Along with that time they would have had scrimmages with Argentina and possibly one or two other Youth teams that are in Argentina. This group needs that preparation. They have no idea of what they are about to face. They are likely one of the least prepared teams for this tournament. Compared with the countries that make more of a commitment to this tournament, they will have had the least practice time and the least time competing as a team. That sort of approach is seldom a prescription for success.

They might still be editing things because there aren't pics up yet for all the players. I had an "aw" moment when I saw that Pittman's favorite athlete is Tori Dixon. Also, impressed by the spread of the favorite books, and that only 1/12 listed Twilight as her favorite book.

Let's back up a little...did the team have to fly United? Was it a sponsor/official partner thing? From Colorado Springs, you can 1-stop on American Airlines through DFW to Argentina, and 1-stop in Atlanta on Delta. So they could have gotten to Argentina, it wasn't like there weren't other flights available. So did they have to fly United?
And why so quiet USAV? Why did USAV not issue a press release, or update, or something on the delay? Even now - has anyone seen anything official that they are actually in Peru? Is finding out from FB posts and Twitter feeds the best way to be handling this? Get out in front of it USAV.

There were instagram posts from the USAV and USAV HP accounts saying that they had arrived safely in Peru.

So 2 pictures on Insta and Tumbler? That's not exactly getting the word out. Meanwhile, FB, Twitter, the USAV website all stayed quiet. They went from July 25 to July 31 without posting anything. And when travel plans fell apart - July 28, 29, 30, 31 - nothing. No announcement they were bypassing Argentina and going straight to Peru. That would seem to be a major change, the kind of thing you Tweet and post.
