Why should they leave in preconference? The fans support them and looks forward to the three tournaments. When you can bring in 5 thousand plus average each match, you would not up and leave. It's killing the golden goose. Hawai'i doesn't belong to a power conference where they get a large amount of TV money. The way they stay a float is the tournaments. Not to mention a huge recruiting tool. Also for the state of Hawai'i, the home matches are watched on TV and that provides a huge TV audience in the state. So no, I wouldn't leave. The matches are contracted at least three years out, and a lot of times those schools also bring other teams to play in Hawai'i the same season. Hawai'i has been the PIONEER in TV coverage, they don't just have one or two cameras fixed on the court, they have roaming cameramen up close the entire event. The types of angles and shots they create were pioneering. Many schools have played Hawai'i in one of those tournaments and took a lot of the ideas and events home and started to emulate the Hawai'i atmosphere. So, again no. Dave would rather take his chances some other way. Staying home in preconference is tradition and a money maker. I agree with you 100%, Dave has built something amazing both in talent and in support. The problem is that Hawaii also wants to host the first two rounds; so if they are unable to draw top teams they will have to choose between the comforts and money of the home matches or going out and getting some quality road wins for a better seed. I have a feeling those top teams, knowing how difficult it is to win in Hawaii, are not going to play there as often. They knew when scheduling that Idaho, SDST, EWU, and Bakersfield (x2) weren't going to be good RPI matches. With the way their conference is now, they are going to have to choose OOC matches wisely. Good luck to Hawaii and LBST in the tourney.

LBSU is a top 60 team,...no question. They deserve being in the postseason,...the RPI be damned. Unfortunately, top 60 (in RPI) is not good enough to make the tournament due to AQ's. Top 50 is the threshold - and LBSU is right on the bubble.

LBSU should go. With Coach Brian's experience and his coaches, they would be trouble in the 1st and 2nd rounds no doubt. They just need an invitation.

Think we are talking semantics,...one of the best 64 teams,...if we include the auto's.
Who wants to play LBSU in the first round?

Big West Rankings - last week of the season. Hawaii got some rest and getting ready for the NCAAs. Long Beach is done after easily dispatching and sweeping NCAA team Denver and sweeping Pacific, not that any of those lousy wins matter to the NCAA. As it turns out seeing who got in, LB probably needed to beat Hawaii to get into the tournament lacking a top 25 win, the irony being that if LB had beat Hawaii once, they might have still lacked a top 25 RPI win!! - go figure.
#1) Hawaii
Next year looks like possibly an even greater chasm between Hawaii and the league, as Hawaii still returns a ton of their talent from this team. LB loses possibly one of the top 2 or 3 best players in the league in Hudson, & LB's depth at MB is all of the sudden gone with only Murray back. Poly petered out, and returns a lot, but what they return has limitations, they need a big bad MB. Davis loses Squyres, Northridge loses their big arm as well. Santa Barbara couldn't have had any worse of a year, hard to predict how much they'll improve again. The lesson from this year is any at-large resume building better be done in the first 4 weeks of the season with little/no margin for error/slip - that's just the way it is.
Meanwhile - Hawaii got it's wish to be shipped to anywhere but Seattle, and the dart thrown by the NCAA landed square in the heart of Texas.
This Hawaii team got to the 2nd round last year, and is better in all regards. The difference between this years Hawaii and last year's Hawaii ( and last year's undefeated Beach team as well) is this Hawaii team has another gear and it's a good one - and they've shown they can flip that switch and turn it on. Still, the key is gonna be receiving serve well - if so this team is capable of going on runs against very good teams. Still, Hawaii won't have a cakewalk 1st or 2nd round.
Just have to see how Hawaii handles it - they were sharp for their last road trip, but you never know with tournament pressure and every game on out for them is basically a true road game - for the next 3 weekends they'll be in a Central time-zone - set your watches 5 hours ahead (or is it behind? I can't keep it straight!). Maybe it's appropriate & a good sign to having them in the land of Oz time-zone for the next month as they go searching for that rainbow.
There's a lot to prove for Hawaii, & I expect they'll show that. Until 2016!

It's sad they didn't make it especially for Hudson.

It's sad they didn't make it especially for Hudson. Yeah... She and Havili are such a treat to watch...my favorite setters this season. I really was hoping the Beach would make it in the tourney. It really is sad to know Hudson won't be back. She is an AMAZING setter. I am definitely going to miss watching her all around game.

Very, very sad that Long Beach didn't make it and really sad for Hudson. Long Beach beat four teams in the tournament (San Diego, LMU, Denver and Harvard). Northern Iowa made it...really??? I am not optimistic about the future of the Big West and also wonder about Long Beach's future as well. I guess a lot depends on the new players and who takes Hudson's place next year. Big shoes to fill.

Go Beach!, very good win! f&*k RPI in advance EVERYONE knows that there's a NCAA slant(/) toward the "Power 5" (PAC's Az. St, an ENTIRELY different team, now). The only west coast Regional is in SD. Everything else, for financial purposses, is east (UNI). Bummer! I'm foreseeing a stronger Beach, don't think otherwise. I like: 5.10 lefty Drewey (4x all-league, 1st Team moreover; 4.0 HS GPA) I like: Murray I like: Barber I like: 6.7 Atkinson / DS Miller (Press Telegram's 2014 POY) I like: the 6.2 Croatian National Team member (FIVB top 20, European) I like: Brinke (the FIVB Beach dolly) I like: Wilson (TX Advantage--Nation's #1 club, J.O. Open, all-tourney) They'll be just fine.

if LB can find a setter, we'll be ok. However, depth is an issue now again.
Atkinson & Miller are gone - done.
I don't want to bag on western teams, the Pac-12 gets hosed by RPI as well, just not as much as the WCC & Big West
still, having ASU in was very questionable
& I'm not discounting Oregon's ability as a team, but they only had FOUR of their 16 wins in the top 100 - that sort of stuff would never fly in the Men's Basketball tournament
mostly, just disappointed Hudson doesn't get to strut her stuff one more time in the tournament - she really was a shot in the arm for the LB program the last couple of years.
the line-up change LB went to the last two weeks of the season was the best of the year, and unfortunately we won't get to see how good that line-up really was now, although they destroyed Denver - it just sucks to win 15 straight sets to end the year, beat some pretty good teams, and then get shut out like that
