[snip] I believe that this year was the turning point for the MIVA in getting respect. It's GREAT for the game. [snip]
What would really be great for the game would be for west coast teams to do periodic midwest and east coast swings. It would raise the level of local interest as well as raise the level of play.
What kind of crowds do you think Pepperdine at Lewis or Pepperdine at Loyola would attract? Can you picture the buzz on campus if UCLA played at George Mason, Penn State and Princeton?
Virtually all midwest/east coast programs make a west coast swing at least every other year. It would be great of the MPSF teams reciprocated.
I know the arguments, i.e. "why should we travel, we have good competition here" and "it costs too much". Maybe this should be looked at as part of the "evangelization" of men's volleyball.

i agree. penn state, loyola, lewis and ball state all came to hawaii this year. i've noticed that they always come to hawaii, and we never venture past utah. true it's expensive, but it's better for the game. i'm not sure, but was the first time this year pepperdine and byu had played lewis? it sure would've helped them to have played them earlier in the year.
