Some post match quotes from Hannah Tapp and Sarah Wilhite. www.gophersports.com/sports/w-volley/recaps/100315aaa.html"We focused a lot on controlling what we could control, Hannah Tapp said. "If that’s just staying in rhythm in our approach, keeping the set in rhythm, and when it’s not them managing it and I think that was really key and we stuck to that and I think we’re really disciplined, I think that’s really what separated us and the Illini in the fourth and fifth set. We focused a lot on getting low and over in good spots. Blocking, we had a great plan and I think it really worked. I think we stuck to the plan and it worked in our favor." "All around, our team was playing really well," Wilhite said. "We were passing well, we were setting well. I just was open, I think that was the big difference, our first contact was great. And so Sam (Seliger-Swenson) was able to put up a great, hittable ball and I was able to work it around the block. There’s nothing better than playing at the Pav. It was just fun to compete and be able to execute at a high level."

Where was the noise from Illi in sets 4 and 5? Church mice make more noise. Were they exhausted, out of shape, hot or did they simply not want to compete? Pretty much a lay down vs. the GG's.

I win I expected! Minnesota did not play well the first 3 sets and the defense looked to be 2 steps too slow, but they pulled it together when it mattered most and dominated sets 4 and 5. Something last year's team could not do. This team keeps getting better and better and I have no doubt they are going to find their way into the top 10 soon.
Next up Rutgers and Maryland. In other words, a crisp 6 sets this week and an easy path to 5-1 in B1G play unless something crazy happens.

Wilhite with 11 kills, hitting .471. I was installing Windows 10 for games 2 through 4, so I'm catching up here. what a time to install winBlows crapWare known as win10 which will spoon feed you with incremental junk they want you to pay for to do what you have done for free for years.. i'm disabling win10 for every computer (family, friends & biz) i have contact with.. sorry to read MS distracted you from much more important events, hoping you saw MN not suck toward the end of the match & get the win in game 4.. and even better, enjoy the replay to see what was going on during your distraction

I think Minnesota has shown they are the real deal the past two weekends. Hugh has done a nice job, especially with that block.

That was a great way to close out a match. Last year we saw that from Minnie, well, not at all. That said, Illinois seemed to completely forget how to pass, play defense or run an offense. They just became completely disheartened. I have not seen that from Illinois last year. They depended heavily on Birks, and Birks was not enough against the Minnie block, and it was like they had no plan B. Donnelly has not had a good week for them.

First, Yeah, woo hoo! BIG win I am so happy that we have adjustments we can make this year. Hugh's move of Hannah and addition of Sarah was the play of the game. Last year I was worried that our coach didn't have it in him. (Cook seems to be the wizard of the mid-game adjustment.) Our girls played with energy all the way through the 5th set. What fun to watch. I wonder if part of this is Daly's influence on the team. Nothing bothers her, she keeps on playing. The Illini cover blocks better than other teams we've played. There passing was good too - there was some nice long rallies. I like the addition of Sara at the end of a set to keep the blockers guessing but I'm not a fan of the in and out thing - just leave her in for a few rotations. Our bench: Maddie and Erica, came in and made a difference. So fun to see them play. SSS continues to impress. She came back in and played even better. The Tapps - who needs to hit when you can block like that. Still, I hope we get a few more plays to the middle as the year progresses.

SSS was having problems pushing the ball out to the pins when they took her out in Set 3 but whatever the assistant coach, Matt Houk, was saying to her really worked as she came back in and really ran the offense to a tee. I think she was able to see what the IL defense was doing too by observing the game on the sidelines. You have to give alot of credit to Erica Handley, she came in and really got things back on track in that third set even though the Gophers couldn't win that set. It's nice to know that MN has some bench players that can come in like that when a starter is struggling and the level of play doesn't drop off significantly - the Gophers haven't had that in a long while!

I agree. SSS was struggling and MN was falling apart. Insert Handley and we gained enough points to at least lose that set with a respectful score. That momentum push that Handley brought combined with the much needed rest and reboot for SSS proved to be exactly what the Gophers needed. Beale also was impressive! Go Gophers!!!!

I like the moves by Hugh.. Nothing to lose by putting in some new folks in the third-they got momentum back and got some good experience which will add confidence and depth to the roster. Morale must be high when you can win with most of your roster contributing, including all three setters getting court time.
