Akana will be a wahine. She is incredibly close to the team because of her sister and should have the libero role locked down. I’m glad it’s finally confirmed Confirmed? Confirmed that she’s leaving USC. Of course her becoming a wahine isn’t confirmed till she signs and that most likely won’t happen till all of this blows over,

Do people think Lazaro is not good enough to be a starting seller or is Keller looking for a back up setter?

How is Nelson compared to Lazaro? #13 in Black No way she runs a 5-1 at USC, but could see action in a 5-2 or 6-2. Lazaro is a good blocker though, one of the strengths of USC being in a 5-1. USC did need a backup setter regardless. But the glaring issue is still ball control. I would think a 6-2 might not be the best idea given that, but we'll see. I don't think getting Nelson was a bad move by SC at all. You want the most options possible going into the fall.

Is Nelson a grad transfer?

Is Nelson a grad transfer? Yep, she was a RS/Junior last season at Duke and was a starter in a 6-2. Lead Duke in assists/set with 5.55 and lead all setters and 4th on team in digs / set with 2.02. She is not going to beat out Lazaro as the starter in a 5-1, but is a quality back up to Lazaro or would be good second setter in 6-2. Either way she fills a need, and with an under-grad degree from Duke and a chance to get advanced degree from USC she is probably happy for the opportunity even if it is a supporting role. Win / Win situation!

Good for Keller and JJ So JJ Van Niel is staying on. Great article - Brad is a solid coach/person. However, I have trouble swallowing parts of this quote: "I really think that Stanford, UCLA and USC are all kind of the same templates. They have their own individual themes that they hang their hats on and they’re all a little bit different, but as far as checking off all the boxes of a Power-5 school with a big football program, big sports, high academics, great locations, great alumni base, networking. If you go through and check off all the boxes, those three schools check them off." Specifically, putting SC in the same category as Stanford/UCLA, especially with regards to location (not even close) and high academics, is beyond a stretch. This being said, I wish Brad all the best!!!

USC’s attempt at gentrifying its surrounding neighborhoods continues.
