They are upset that USC has not made any statements in solidarity with BLM or their black athletes and instead have continued to post normal pictures on social media. Again they are upset without knowing the university policies. USC is probably just following it's own policy. Which is probably don't comment on political issues as to not offend either side. It may sound a little cowardly but their lawyers advice that's the way to go to avoid getting sued by either side. Again what you're ignoring is that while (in our modern society) this is now doubt a political issue - it is also a civil rights issue and by following their own policy, USC's silence is deafening. They might be attempting to protect themselves from litigation by following their policies but those policies clearly weren't written with a situation like this in mind.

Women's volleyball has a tweet pinned at the top promoting Black History Month, but nothing else, which does seem odd. Same with beach volleyball, a program with an African-American head coach.

Countless other universities have. Also, social media takeovers are common. I’m sure those players are much more familiar with USC’s social media policies than you are.

USC Volleyball also used to publicly support Pride events and made social media posts of its players supporting it... isn’t that something more “political” than saying our black athletes lives matter?

Volleyball programs who are silent about BLM just seem so weird and out of touch. DO BETTER.

I watched a little bit of the Insta post. What I took from it is that some current/former players approached USC earlier about making a statement either individually or on behalf of the team via USC's platforms and were told no initially (I think there was some reading into the reasoning behind why it was a No but I'm not going to get down to that level of hearsay). On top of that, no statement was made period. Is that a correct assumption as to what motivated Meyer-Whalley's post?

USC never responded to Meyer-Whalley’s comment on the picture they posted yesterday.
They actually DELETED that post today. Reni’s public comment on the picture and Raegan’s “don’t f*cking tag me” probably led to that.

On so many levels this is a FAIL but to delete a post and act like it doesn't exist is a huge NO-NO. And this message without actions falls shorts without truthfully acknowledging their faults in being silent and how they have failed their black athletes. WHY were they silent? Did they not know what to say? Were they listening to what their athletes were saying? Did their athletes have a say in this message?

Again what you're ignoring is that while (in our modern society) this is now doubt a political issue - it is also a civil rights issue and by following their own policy, USC's silence is deafening. They might be attempting to protect themselves from litigation by following their policies but those policies clearly weren't written with a situation like this in mind. Hypothetically what if a majority of the team wants the USC women's volleyball Instagram to support a "Pro Life" movement hashtag "Baby Lives Matter!" The rights of babies developing in the tummy are human rights so no one would have problem with that right?
Look these are not my policies but I can see the logic where commenting on political issues can be a slippery slope so the policies were written not to do it. If you're employed by the university then you're required to follow these policies regardless of your personal opinions. If USC coaches got the OK from higher ups to show support then great for them.
You also make a good point how some of these policies may have been written before social media was around. Apps especially like Instagram is a relatively new animal. Aspects of policies may be behind the times and need to be updated to keep up with evolving technology.

Please stop. This isn't a political issue. It's a human rights issues. Racism comes from the Left, Right, Moderate, Progressive, Liberal. If you want to debate their social media policies, go right ahead, but it appears that their own football team made a post a week ago AND participated in Black Out Tuesday. Instagram is not new. Social media is not new and they have a presence as a school and for their athletic programs. Saying they weren't prepared for this movement and what has transpired over the course of the last two week makes more sense, because I can say that almost no brand (except Ben & Jerry's), organization or school was prepared to address what has been going on for countless years.

Ya'll see Reni Meyer-Whalley calling out USC volleyball ?! #LoveIt http://instagr.am/p/CBRRKhZFbGP "USC Volleyball would be in the SHI**ER" "Everything the program has been through in the past few years which is A LOT" "Brad, I just want you to know that this is not directly towards you, although you do have a part in it. I understand you are taking on a program who has been through A LOT. You are the third coach in three years. I've been through that program, and I was a part of it when it started to get really crazy. And I understand that taking on that is a lot to handle" Reagan LeGrand also comes on in the video. "So let's talk about waking up to that post this morning, I was personally really upset because I know that they are tip-toeing around it, and they're not going to address it. Don't f$cking TAG me". Jasmine Gross: "@renimwhalley said it perfectly. I am also incredibly saddened by the silence. Need to use the 70,000+ followers to stand up for what your athletes/former athletes are speaking up about. We have to do better. BLACK LIVES MATTER." Just watched this in its entirety, and that was amazing.

I can't wait to see who's going to rant about this. Will USC women's volleyball boycott Starbucks? LOL
