Awesome to see this side of the forum talking some college men's volleyball. I definitely encourage everyone to check out some matches this season whether online or in person. Always great to grow the game together as a volleyball community.

Who is Satana? And if she's any relation to Satan, what a get for McCutcheon!

For the board in general, there's not a lot of cross-over between posters for both Men and Women. I think there's only a handful that follow both (swaneys, akbar, kokyu, couple of Hawaii posters, others?)
That might be a by-product of schools that have huge followings on the Women's side not having a Men's program to follow in the spring (Wisconsin, Nebraska, Texas, Washington, Florida, Minnesota, etc.) which is why we never see any of those posters on the Men's forum.
Fwiw, there's a lot of parity this year in the Men's game as it feels like a truly wide-open field. I think it's a good year for people that only follow Women's Vball to try and catch some Men's matches. Last year's Men's finals was incredibly entertaining to watch and I didn't even have a horse in the race - we should be in for a great post-season in 2016 as well.

The men's game incorporates back row attacks much more than the women's. I would like to see more back row attacks in the women's game, instead of just moon balling to the outside when they're out of system. Stanford and USC are a couple of teams that utilized the back row attack a lot The Wahine also used the back row attack a lot, running Nikki Taylor out of the D.

The NCAA D1 Championship is actually at Penn State this year first week of May so catch that if you can.

I know. I know. I'm beating a dead horse here, but here goes anyway. I've watched a few NCAA men's matches over the last month or two, and I feel like I'm watching professional volleyball. I didn't feel this way just 4 years ago. I expect to see more and more of the top NCAA talent become superstars professionally (ala Matt Anderson). A few things that I think are stifling the development of our young women. 1. Stupid substitution rules. We've beat this to death, so I won't say more. 2. Too many teams resulting in watered down talent and competition. 3. This is a bit of a guess: I'm assuming that young girls don't play as many different sports as young men do growing up which suppress some of their natural athleticism. 4. and those stupid substitution rules. I know there are benefits to have more people playing etc, but I'm simply focused on the fact that we seem to be churning out more top talent .... ready to go on the men's side considering the participation rate. One thing I noticed the top freshmen for the mens game are insane, they can do it all at such a high level already, totally different than top freshmen in the womens game. I think the sub rules suck. Maybe it helps that they get to train all fall before their season though.

Maybe it helps that they get to train all fall before their season though. This year's freshman class is just really good. This year probably has the most impact freshman in a while. I would not be surprised to see at least a handful of freshman earn all-American honors this season, as one of the top players this year is a freshman out of Honolulu in Micah Ma`a playing for UCLA. I do not believe the men's side is always like this with the freshman contributing this much, as I honestly have never seen this much freshman make such an impact. I believe this is one of those years that the freshman class is just really good and well-rounded. As there are also some good freshman that are sitting behind other experienced players as Hawai`i has couple good freshman that haven't seen much court time because they are playing behind couple experienced upperclassmen.

To raise the level of play at the world level there should be more emphasis on development vs making money. Why aren't there pro leagues in America? Because they don't make money. USA Volleyball should find corporate sponsorship who's sole responsibility is to subsidize the league. IF there was a pro league in America, more top collegiate players would play at the next level. The trouble is USA Volleyball wants to keep sponsorship money in house vs going to the players in order to make a living wage.
I would bet a local millionaire would love to sponsor a local team called "Mike's Electric Company" Golden Flashes. That same person has no interest in giving money to a corporate entity such as USA volleyball.
