Is this the final entry list? bvbinfo.com/Tournament.asp?ID=3223Once again the top teams give the finger to their US fans? I recognize finishing in Seattle on the 5th and playing in Germany on the 8th is not ideal, but neither is it prohibitive. Also in a field like this you are looking at one tough match to win 15k. USAV should not be paying Tri/John enough to pass that up

Don't think it's giving the finger as much as it is poor scheduling

That means leaving Seattle at the earliest late Sunday night which would realisticly get you into Hamburg on Tuesday. Not ideal situation after playing a full tourney with the AVP and then starting pool play the next day. Not sure how this is giving the finger to the US fans? Not to mention Hamburg was the last "olympic qualifying" event, so huge priority given to it up until last weekends results. That event is now very anticlimactic unless Emily and Jen can go ahead and win it!

I just spent ten minutes on Travelocity and got a few different flights that would get a team into Germany on Monday late afternoon. Lets say the finish on Sunday and get to Germany on Monday. They then have a full day and a half off and play one match the next day. If you are a top seed thats an easy match. Is that ideal. No it really isnt. Would Sinjin Smith have done it when he and friends were building the AVP? Absolutely. Making the trip could mean a second place finish in pool as opposed to a first I understand that, and it may not be optimal but if these teams have any interest in building the sport in this country, and they should, they should make that trip. As to playing a "full tourney" its 5 or 6 matches, at least two of them walks. Its just shortsighted not to play both. I would compare it to an employee at a failing business refusing to do something that isnt in his/her job description even though she knows it would help the company she depends on for her job.

Are you sure that list is final? BVBinfo often posts preliminary lists.

Back then the AVP money was worse than it is now, at least at the beginning, and everybody at the time concedes that Sinjin's dedication to promotion cost him training time and money. Also in the early days you didnt win anything beyond 4th place

Looks like it's really only Dalhausser/Lucena missing on the men's side. Crabbs are there, Gibb/Patterson, Doherty/Mayer, Bomgrens, Casebeer/Olson all playing. Also, nice to see Stafford Slick coming back after that injury he took in NOLA.
Ahh, I guess I missed that Bourne/Hyden are missing as well. I wonder if that changes at all now that they are mathematically eliminated from Rio contention. I know the New Orleans AVP list wasn't "complete" the deadline day and it looked like teams were missing but showed up later.

Good to know. When I looked I didn't see Casey/Jake on the list. Glad to see players sacrificing a little to promote the sport! Phil is still irritating but he has been that way for a while. ("This is just a job for me")

Teams could always just forfeit their Sunday matches......

BTW, I like the Loomis and Kolinske pairing.
And you'd think Marchewka could have gotten a higher ranked player than Cabbage.

I travel a lot - had flown from Seattle to London several times - you really don't want to finish a tournament at 1 or 2, rush to get to the airport by 5 (two hours before a departure) and then sit on a plane for 9+ hours, have layover and then another 2 hours on a plane (12 hours of fun travel time) after playing all weekend, your first day there is going to be spent sleeping. Sadly, in this day and age if the Olympics were on the line none of the top teams would be showing up in Seattle - again, flaw in the system. Now, if Seattle was part of the US Olympic team qualification process think of how great it would be….essentially, the FIVB and the Olympic Committee are giving the finger to the US (and other countries) by preventing a qualifying process on home soil.

I have a hard time seeing Billy move over to the other side. His whole offense is built around that great high line shot. Butteryhands - Will Loomis play right side? And surprised to not see Casey Jennings in the tourney at all. I thought Marty Lorenz was playing some decent ball last year to perhaps upgrade over an Adam Roberts. Looking forward to seeing Slick/Tramblie - that should be a decent pairing if they gel well. Dave McKienzie Ed Ratledge pairing is another head scratcher. I enjoyed watching Brunsting / Frishman in Huntington - they seem like a pretty good young team. On women's side, what happened to the Misty May comeback and Jen Kropp and Nicole Branah have missed the last two AVPs including Seattle. Is Kropp done? She could basically get to the finals of every tournament with an above average defender.
