You can't always get what you want. You get what you need. Congrats to Kerri/April. I didn't think the Bronze mattered, until I realized it did.
I actually think if they played anything like they did for the first set and a half they would have been MAULED by Germany. They really cleaned their game up in the 3rd set. Still, I'm happy it worked out this way. They got to win the Bronze as opposed to lose the Silver. Not saying they for sure would have lost, but losing your first Olympic match ever trying to get a 4-Peat would have been devastating. Worse than what happened yesterday. This way it worked out to have a nice arc. Kerri already got a fairy tale ending by winning London with Misty. This was just added bonus.

I've only played and watched this sport for about 50 years, but that's one of the greatest women's matches I have ever seen. So damned entertaining, especially the outcome. I give Larissa credit for not berating her partner as she has in the past. Talita was definitely tired at the end. She must have received about 99% of all the serves. Kerri came through in a big (block) way, but April was a friggin' rock. Who cares if it was for third? I was just glad to see these team play each other.

Kerri deserves all of the accolades she will have bestowed on her the next few days, but April deserves just as many for sticking by her through it all. She did nothing but support her in her adversity the entire semi-final match and it carried through the Bronze medal match. There was no hanging heads from either of them and every superlative imaginable is deserved for the effort they both gave to each other. They both showed their class, desire and will to win and came out on top. If this was Kerri's last match, she went out a true champion in my eyes and many others. Thanks for always playing hard. You earned everything you worked for and more!

If she got tired in one match, having played every other day for two weeks, then she deserves to be berated. Shame this match didnt happen 4 or 8 years ago for Gold when both of these legends were at their best

Call me crazy, but I think this is just going to fuel Kerri to go to Tokyo in 2020. I feel like Kerri will step away only by getting dragged off the court. She's going down swinging ! If she goes down swinging it will be her arm they drag off the court. Even if there is a will, her body cant stand up to four more years. Also her most important advantage, height and speed at that height, get less every day. Best case scenario in Tokyo would be a legacy appearance

Bravo. April was pretty steady throughout the match. Kerry just took over game 3.

They were both amazing. At the end, Kerri with block after block, and April looking like some kind of sand yeti from having laid out for so many digs.
I agree with whoever said its better that they won bronze than lost and got silver. They got to come out triumphant tonight.
Happy.

KWJ is the anti-hope Solo. Gracious in defeat. So happy they won last night.
As long as endorsement money is rolling in, she will keep playing.
April had a great tournament. I would think if she wants a new partner she wouldn't have much trouble finding one.

Nice to see everyone recognize the type of match April had. April kept showing Kerri that she wasn't going to give up. This was one of the greatest games I've ever seen from 1 player. It would have been easy for April to try too hard and make mistakes, She kept kerri's head in it. The sets April gave Kerri on some of those shanks really saved their asses. Then once Kerri started contributing, they started rolling. That match should be shown to every player at every age, in beach you HAVE to support each other and stay positive through the bad times. What a teammate.
I've always been a Misty fan over April, but April earned a new fan last night.

I am a fan of both Misty and April. April played great. She deserves most of the credit for that medal.

My point was that there's something nicer about going out on a win than going out on a loss.

I was watching Germany Brazil just now and it occurred to me who Laura reminds me of in the way she hits the ball. Mireya Luis. Not necessarily in her swing or anything but in how physical her jump is and how aggressive she is and how that compares to other players. If you saw a silhouette of her swinging (with the relevant gender identifiers cgi'd out) you would think it was a man.

Larissa/Talita must be devastated. They looked to be the team to beat playing on their own soil and they didn't end up with a medal.

April had a great tournament. I would think if she wants a new partner she wouldn't have much trouble finding one. I think it would be amusing if Ross and Ross formed a team, with Summer following April.
