What happens if this goes 5 and USA loses to CHN 3-0 or 3-1?

Who wants Netherlands to win? Who wants Serbia to win? If this match goes 5 with the Netherlands winning, the US only need to win one set against China to lock up first place, so that's my ideal scenario. I'm rooting for Serbia in this set, then the Dutch in the 5th.

What happens if this goes 5 and USA loses to CHN 3-0 or 3-1? I haven't done any math, but I think Serbia/Netherlands would win the tie-breaker on set ratio

What happens if this goes 5 and USA loses to CHN 3-0 or 3-1? It depends who wins. Serbia wins: US has to win at least 2 sets to be #! NED wins: US has to win at least 1 set to be #1

Why would Serbia need to rest Mihajlovic. There's always a day of rest at the Olympics. Doesn't make sense. +1 This was Serbia's last shot in getting an additional 3 points (and hope that China can take down the USA) to be #1 in the pool and face either Argentina or Japan.

So I guess we should be rooting for NED? They're up 8-3 in he 5th.

Scratch that, I did my math wrong again. The Dutch are at 14-7 in set ratio so the Americans do need to win two sets in their match today to lock down first in pool. However, China has now been decided as the #4 team because there's no way they can catch Serbia in set ratio. I wonder if they'll play less than full strength in preparation for their upcoming Brazil/Russia match.

I'll definitely be rooting for the Netherlands (except if they play the US)! Depending on their quarterfinal matchup, I think the Dutch have a very good chance to get on the podium

That is key if they are to advance into the semi-final. As for China, doesn't matter if they withhold or not, they don't have the ability to advance beyond quarter-finals. They are done.

Well that was interesting.. Def not what I expected. Didn't seem like Serbia cared about winning/losing? Maybe they see no difference in finishing 2nd/3rd in pool. Maybe they wanted their bench to get playing time.. Or just wanted to rest half their starters. Good luck to them in quarters!

Can you stop being so negative about China when in reality you are a supporter? What makes you think I am a supporter? I am just as critical about Italy's performance. They sucked. But since you guys want to talk about China more, hey, sure. I analyze them according to what is expected of them. My praise or criticism has no bearing on who I support. Can you stop throwing accusations around and look at team performance more objectively? Fact: China and Italy has underperformed...badly. Fact: Serbia and Netherlands are darkhorses. Fact: US has performed (so far) more or less expected of them.
