I'm really getting to despise the officials/referees that FIVB has or assigns to matches. As someone who has been involved in the sport of volleyball for many, many years in all phases including officiating, why are these officials so inconsistent, so smug, so arrogant, so over the top.
Yesterday in the USA/Italy match, why didnt the R! support his R2 by immediately issuing yellow cards when the Italians were slamming the net, touching the R2, crossing the court to the American side, etc etc but instead the R1 admonishes Russell for not calling the touch on himself, are you freaking kidding me.
Today a close call on the Dutch setter when it was 22-22, it was an athletic play and the way he was calling the sets the entire match, I've seen worse that he didnt call (btw, that official is the Uber of refs)
Today he gives Larson a yellow card (which maybe pumped up the team) but for what, is he so sacred that he can't have a conversation. Its passion, its a fierce competition and alot of players sometimes just say things to the other team in the heat of the moment, if it was consistent trash talking thats another story, how about a verbal warning to show that you understand the situation, wonder if he ever played and never voiced his opinion.
Why aren't there more USA officials as R1 or R2's. Why can't we get a key to the club. Why do USA officials have to try so hard through there own internal process first to reach higher status and then try even harder to become a FIVB official. You have former Soviet republics who are only a few years in existence and they have 3,4,5 FIVB officials. USAV collects all those dues, why not sponsor some young officials for a season or two to go to Europe just like our players go and become FIVB officials.
Why aren't there more female officials doing female matches, I know the answer but won't type it here because it's the old European boys club and its an elitist organization just like FIFA.
They love the American money coming in but do we have equal representation, hardly. We need a CEO that will make sure that USAV is represented equally not only in committees, boards, competitions but also officials.
