trojansc,
You do a great job with this, and I appreciate your hard work. Obviously, you add a lot of subjectivity to your analysis, and that's no different than the rest of us. For whatever reason, you have been trying to knock Texas out of the #4 national seed for several weeks now, even though the RPI and SOS don't support your rationale. You introduced me to the "nitty gritty", and although I haven't looked at it since last week, that might be the only tool which provided any support for Kansas being a higher seed than Texas. I think in one week, you had Texas as low as the #7 national seed; again, nothing that I saw (RPI, SOS, futures) supported that.
Folks here have allowed the perception that a conference championship is a factor used by the committee to determine seeds; obviously, we found out loud and clear yesterday that it is not.
We have seen in college football playoffs for a very long time that the conference championship is not valued as much as it once was (bowl selections). Back in 2002 or 2003, Colorado beat Texas for the Big 12 title; but, it was Nebraska who was given the nod to play Miami for the national title in the Rose Bowl. Nebraska didn't even play in the Big 12 championship game, but had the "numbers" to be ranked #2 in the final regular season rankings.
Even over the weekend, Ohio State, who will not play for the B1G football championship, has basically already secured a spot in the Top 4 of the college football playoff rankings. Why? Because they have big wins over Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Meanwhile, Penn State and Wisconsin will play for the B1G championship, but neither is in strong position to be in the Top 4 come next Sunday.
Once everyone here accepts that a conference championship doesn't earn any bonus points come tourney selection time, the better off everyone will be.
