Just ask an opponent who they would like to have make a critical play at a critical time. It SURE ain't gunna be Kerri...I've seen it time and time again a critical play going Kerri's way. You can't teach some of it. The USC girls saw it in SF when they were "on stage" in the finals...Still never forget that under the net recovery in the Olympics, watching Kerri show us how the "rule" was on 1st ball going under the net (You MUST bring it back the way it traveled) and she did it instinctively and, I think, won the point...LOTS of those plays in her repertoire... Lots of those plays in her history. This year when the Brazilians were choosing who to serve on critical points in the Olympic semis, it was Kerri.

What position would she play for indoor? Outside? Right side, probably -at least, that's where she played in the 2000 Olympics.

OMG Guest 2- forgot all about Pat Powers - you are right, he was a banger!!! I've often heard that some of the older guys like Ron Von Hagen could really pound the ball, so I wish I could have seen some of those guys in person! Watching a few old videos probably doesn't do them justice, and don't you also think they were just better diggers back in those days (before they just played defense and no one really blocked)?

Best pure hitters I've ever actually seen play a fair amount, in their prime, are (in no particular order) Jose Loiola, Scott Ayakatubby and Stokie followed closely by Emanuel Rego, Steffes, and Karch's hard cut shot. Honorable mention to Allen "A-Bomb" Allen. That's right - I went to the Bud Light 4's Tour!!! On the women's side, I've gotta go with Misty as the smartest and best all around hitter ever, followed closely by Sandra Pires, April, Nancy Reno and Annette Davis. In fact, I'll so far as to say that if Netty would have ever left Jenny Jordan (I know, I know, they were besties, and Jenny is probably the sweetest person I have ever had the pleasure to meet), she could have won mega tournaments with a true big. Holy crap, did I ever get off of the subject there - WOW!!! Great, thanks for getting off subject now I have to add that Skip Allen put on the most amazing show in Hilo at 77 Opens. Dominated the finals, cut after cut after cut. VB Magazine has a pic of him cutting a ball so much it looks like his shoulder is coming out of joint. All time performance. Sure there a few on the board that remember that.

Hey Austintatious - was Skip Allen by any chance Allen Allen's Dad? Would make sense because they are both from Hawaii? Just wondering!

Hey Austintatious - was Skip Allen by any chance Allen Allen's Dad? Would make sense because they are both from Hawaii? Just wondering! Skip is from Santa Barbara, and would have been like 14 when Allen Allen was born, so probably not. Mike Lambert had a lethal arm. In one match, I saw hime break one of Fabio's fingers in the first game, then break Fabio's nose and concuss him the second game. Igor Kolodinsky had a bazooka (which was also his nickname). Rosie could pull off some ridiculous hits in his prime. The big Chinese girl, Xue Chen. Liz Masakayan could bring it when she wanted. And I don't know if this is too obscure, but I remember being at the Hermosa Open once where people would turn their head at the sound of Ali Wood making contact - that deep "thump" sound. Girl had a cannon.

Nice ones, Geddy! Forgot about Lambo - I made my partner do the I formation this summer, and she had no idea what I was talking about - who doesn't remember Karch's bad shoulder and he and Lambert doing that??? I once saw George Roumain hit a ball about as hard as anyone I had ever seen, except of course, Rosie's straight down hit at about the 3 foot line.....
