I think most would consider Nebraska's class as number 1 and probably one of the greatest of all time. I like Copenhagen's upside, she may be the lowest ranked among the four recruits but she could turns out to be the best by the time they are seniors. I think Copenhagen will compete strongly for a starting Opposite (or as part of a 6-2 sub) position. She has certainly been able to play both MB and Opp positions (I think she has been playing Opp only recently) strongly, and given that the Emily Adams and Bibiana Candelas are likely to continue to dominate the MB positions, Copenhagen's best chance of seeing playing time will be at the Opp position.

I like Copenhagen but if her starting spot comes at the expense of Staci Venski, I will be heartbroken . I really hope that Venski can start this year, she is really beautiful

The starting Opp position is certainly up for grabs this year among Staci, Alicia and Diane. The key question is who will be the two players used in the 6-2 rotations and if it has to come to a 5-1, who will play all around (like Katie did last season)? One area that I think Staci needs to improve is being more physical (like Katie). I like that she has trained with the A2 team in the summer at the outside hitter position, so hopefully she will be ready to hammer away the balls.

If Florian cannot beat out Gysin for the OH2 position, will she challenge for time at the opposite which is where she started on the national team

No chance for Dunphy to be setting? I actually saw a game of hers at Harvard-Westlake and she seemed pretty accurate, if nothing else. It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Siljegovic, Freeburg, and Dillon will be the main competitors for the setters spot, without much reference to Dunphy.
With regular playing time, I think Venski can develop that competitive edge that could bring together all of her physical tools and make her a complete volleyball player. From watching her play in limited time last year, she seemed almost hesitant in some of her attacks. It's difficult to come off the bench and provide a spark for some people, and if she gains Haley's confidence and becomes an everyday player I think she can really shine.
And yes... she most definitely is a cutie.
Lastly - who thinks we're going to miss Nicole Davis more than anyone else? She was nails every single time I watched her play, and I find it hard to believe that Seilhamer is as good... but I'd like to be pleasantly surprised. In about a week I'll be back in Los Angeles, waiting in line for my Athletic Card so I can attend all these volleyball games! Oh, and USC's got a pretty good football team too ;D

Of course you wouldn't know about football, you root for Stanford Something to add: I don't think there's a team in the nation that can compete with our power middles. Sometimes the other teams just look completely defenseless when Bibiana runs a lightning-fast quick and the ball is down before they even know what happened. I'm just so excited! Someone please contain me...

I just saw the 4 freshmen (Jessica, Diane, Katelyn and Sarah) a few minutes ago at the Tommy Trojan plaza wearing what I think could be the new away uniform -- cardinal with gold sleeves. They seem to be in good shape.

The early report from trojan camp is that Sarah Florian and Jessica Gysin have been really impresive.

The early report from trojan camp is that Sarah Florian and Jessica Gysin have been really impresive. That's all fine and dandy. However - how much playing time are they looking at? SC seems to be set at OH with Burdine and Robinson. Might one or both of them be used as back-row players subbing in for Adams and Candelas?

With all the injuries Robinson has endured over the past few seasons, along with her inconsistent play, I would actually give the nod to either Florian or Gysin. I am aware of Robinson's offense, but how is her passing and digging? Florian and Gysin are excellent at both so I would think their play in the back would give them a nod over Robinson. If Robinson is to see playing time this year, I think it'll be at opposite, if Haley decides to run with his modified 5-1 again.

I don't think Robinson will play OH position. So far, she has only been playing in the Opp rotation in the 6-2 system. A few times when Haley had her as an OH (as a back-up strategy for Ross and Burdine, and playing all six rotations), her passing and digging remained suspect. Burdine has one OH position locked. The other OH, I think, will be between Florian and Gysin.
It also seems that USC will continue to rely on its modified 6-2 system, and if Robinson has fully healed, then I would suspect her to play only front row as part of 6-2 substitutions (sharing the Opp positions with Venski and Copenhagen).

Looks great!! Gysin is a blond now, not as good looking as before Gilmore looks cute Venski's picture is an old one, I was hoping that they will put a new picture of her, that picture does not do her justice. BTW the picture they had of her when she was a freshman was a good one. As usual, topic about height. Nena S is listed as 5-10 but she seems to be only a little taller than the 5-7 Dillion and Florian does not looks like she is 6 inches taller than Anne Montgomery
