Brooke Smith is going to Kansas State. Didn't Brooke walk on at Ne? I wonder if she is getting a scholarship at KSU; I hope she does! GO HUSKERS

Why didn't these players transfer after last indoor season? If they had, they could have played 2 seasons of beach. This is probably rule prohibited in some fashion. One rule that may cloud that potential idea would be graduation from original school. Not sure that it applies but if so they would have all had to take accelerated class loads to graduate early. The other idea is that maybe they really don't care that much about playing 2 more seasons of sand volleyball versus contiueing their education. Probably sounds weird on this site but could also be in play. There's no particular rule that would keep a player from taking that route. It's happened a number of occasions, most recently by Carly Kan. It really just depends on (as you noted) academic progress and personal preference. Many, if not all, 5th year transfers are spending four full years at one school before transferring to another to get a start on grad school - hopefully with a little beach scholarship money to help out.

Schools have residency requirements ... you can't just take four classes in the Spring and get a degree from them.

Looks Like LMU beach volleyball got some good 5th years too. Mayer has signed Cierra Simpson, Chloe Reinig, McKayla Ferris and Morgan Bogust to letters of intent to play at LMU. Simpson, Reinig and Ferris are all fifth-year transfers who will play one season with the Lions after exhausting their indoor eligibility at other institutions. www.lmulions.com/sports/w-svolley/spec-rel/053017aaa.htmlWhy didn't these players transfer after last indoor season? If they had, they could have played 2 seasons of beach. Simpson was finishing her degree at CU before leaving.

Alyse Whitaker from Duke to Gonzaga. Blue Devils losing a bunch this offseason. Could be a very down year for the Blue Devils, esp. if the schedule gets harder/ACC deepens.

According to Rich Kern, Caroline Pearson is headed to Clemson. I'm assuming this is the same Pearson who started at Denver and then transferred to ASU.

There is no penalty for transferring twice? Wellllll that depends...... The one-time transfer exemption is just that: one time. She'll have to sit a year if she transfers again.
