Traditionally, Indiana State has been a tough gig. Terre Haute is not a town that will draw people in; the court where volleyball plays is odd; Indiana State has a budget in the bottom half of the Missouri Valley Conference - last time I looked, the budget was about half of other schools in the league. There are 10 teams in the league and only top 6 make tournament. Current budgeting and staffing make it difficult, if not impossible, to compete with top teams in the league. However, Indiana is full of talent, Illinois is a stones throw away(almost literally) and you are in the heart of an incredible volleyball area of the country. They should be able to finish first in the bottom half of the league (6th) and make the conference tournament on a fairly regular basis. You had me all the way up until "However...". Considering, outside of the teams that made the NCAA tournament (Wichita State, Missouri State and UNI), 6 of the remaining 7 are in Indiana or Illinois. So I'm not sure about your logic (or just weird comment) of these teams that are around areas "full of talent", would make the MVC tournament on a fairly regular basis... Making the MVC tournament would be a great accomplishment at Evansville and Indiana State. Traci did a solid job there, considering Indiana State's facilities are pretty weak. I have to agree with the new Admin that "wants more done with less" assessment. It's going to come to Admin support and money. Best of luck to her and whomever takes over. What I was trying to say is with all the Junior talent in INdiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky... The MVC is a great example of the haves and have-nots. The bottom 5 teams are budgeted in very similar ways. I think IN State should be able to finish at the top of that pile 2 years every 4; 3 of 5...and make the playoffs on a fairly regular basis.

Well, if you are right, why would any coach interested in success want to be there? It would take a good coach to do that and good coaches typically aren't going to be thrilled about working their a $$ off for those kind of results. Just sayin.

ANY program can have an appropriate level of success. You just need the right coach--some coaches are great at building from scratch, others are 'closers' you bring in to take a program that final step. The problem is what is valued in the hiring process. In other sports, research shows the greatest indicator of future success is previous success, yet the preferred choice for hiring is always inexperienced assistant coaches with no experience. Want to turn around an Indiana State or ________ State or ______ Tech? Hire a coach who wins already. He can be at an NJCAA school, she can have five straight tourney appearances at a NAIA D-2...but they're going to be better choices 90% of the time.

You can be tough, as long as you’re not toxic. Some coaches don't know the difference.

Ahh the new direction movement. Red flag job if you ask me. She only had 1 full time assistant on staff by the looks of the website. Looks like another administration that wants more done with less. New AD padding his resume by making coaching changes for all sports considered to be underperforming. When they're interviewing for the next (bigger) gig, it doesn't look good if they didnt bring in new coaching staffs for all sports finishing in the lower half of whatever league the school competes in. Haven't been to Terra Haute, but I understand it's quite lovely.

I don't even know how to pronounce Terre Haute. I assume it's not the French way.
