#4 Florida (7-1) 9-1 vs. South Florida WIN 1-0 9-3 vs. TCU WIN 2-0 9-3 vs. Miami (OH) WIN 3-0 9-4 vs. Northwestern LOSS 3-19-9 vs. Kansas State WIN 4-1 9-10 vs. Northern Iowa WIN 5-1 9-11 @ Minnesota WIN 6-1 9-14 @ Florida State WIN 7-1 Just a correction on who Florida plays on 9/4. I think Northwestern has the talent to upset here. I don't think Minnesota will beat them, though. I wasn't impressed with the offense I saw from them (MN) during the spring. I know, I know... it was just spring. No offense, I'm sure they will be good, but Florida won't lose at home. It's rare that they do and it has always taken a really good team to beat them. Esp. when it's right before a football game and the crowd is large. It just won't happen, even with all the question marks this team has. KSU, UNI and/or Minnesota are more likely to beat UF

You just keep thinking that... ;D Not that it can't happen, but I think UCSB would have a better chance beating Florida if they played the 1st or 2nd week. By the time they meet, Florida will have 9 or 10 matches under their belt, I'd expect them to be much better at that time. Assuming, of course, UCSB gets by UConn and Florida gets by Clemson, or they could meet if they both lose Should be a good match though, I haven't seen UCSB in person and I look forward to watching them, esp. Nelson, who Mary said was the best libero she'd seen.

Actually, did you know that I am a researcher at UF? I am planning on being there for the tourney. For some reason, I don't think I'll be rooting for the Gators...

A little off topic but I really like Bailey Hassett, she plays libero and she was a walk on last year who did not get any playing time. (She did not travel) I am wondering if she will be able to play this year. She is from UCSB/SD/Torrey Pines

She traveled to UC Riverside as an emergency sub when Emily Hendrickson was injured during the previous night's game. She is on the 2004 roster, but I wouldn't to see her play a lot with Nelson starting. Next year they have a libero coming in who they are really high on. I can't remember her name but she and her dad came to a lot of last year's games. Anyway, don't expect to see a lot of her as a Gaucho. Then again, you can never tell what will happen. She seems like a nice young woman and her parents seem nice as well so we can always hope.

You know, you are right. I was mentally mixing teams, and was thinking the Northwestern squad was Colorado State. I did that because the setters from both schools played the same year here in Southern California, one for LB Poly and one for St. Joseph. They were both excellent setters and fun to watch, and still are. But you are right about not losing. I do think that if it was Colorado State in the opening tourney, then Florida might have to worry.

Watching CSU last year in the regionals, I thought, in another year, this team is gonna be really good. They just looked shell shocked to be in the sweet 16 last year and it showed when Florida opened the match on an 11-0 run. After that, they settled down and played pretty well. I expect them to have a very good year this year and am anxious to see how they do in the NACWAA to start the season.

When NU played CSU in the spring down at K State it really wasn't that close of a match as NU won 30-9 and 30-24. Of course all this was done without Pavan and Stalls being on the team yet. I know that spring matches aren't always a good indication about teams and how good they will be as they could be doing some experimenting with their lineups. Physically, CSU couldn't matchup with NU and the Huskers big block definitely had CSU intimidated in the first game but they did adjust some against the big block in the 2nd game. Though the 2nd game was closer for a while NU pulled away at the end. CSU went home without winning a match as KSU and Witchita State both defeated CSU as well. I read that one of the outside hitters had surgery last spring - was she playing then?

#13 Hawaii I'm not calling these, sorry. 9-2 vs. Eastern Washington 9-3 vs. San Diego 9-5 vs. Arizona 9-9 vs. Southwest Missouri State 9-10 vs. Santa Clara 9-11 vs. UCLA Let me take a stab at this: 9-2 vs. Eastern Washington WIN 1-0 9-3 vs. San Diego WIN 2-0 9-5 vs. Arizona LOSS 2-1 9-9 vs. Southwest Missouri State WIN 3-1 9-10 vs. Santa Clara WIN 4-1 9-11 vs. UCLA LOSS 4-2 Not a bad start for a 13th ranked Wahini team

A big unknown with CSU is how the Andy Klussman situation is going to affect them.
You can't shrug something like that off, but you can "play through" it -- which I hope they can!
Unfortunately, their first attempt at this will be at the NACWA in front of the whole VB community.
