Jennica looked good at the match. Too bad she's not eligible to play on the other side of the net anymore. I thought the alum were going to take game 1. Maybe if Elsa hadn't just had a baby a few months ago....
The Tigers had better step it up a few notches if they want to make it to NCAA's this year. With no AA candidates, it's going to be a hard sell to let them in with a record similar to last year.

With no AA candidates, . . . Do you think Stevie or Hayley have any chance at AA recognition this year?

Anyone else think it's funny that Jayne McHugh (aka COACH) played for the Alumni?
Aside from Joines and Steggemen, I have never heard of any of these other players.

Considering that Jayne IS an alum of UOP, it's not that funny or strange.

Steggeman-Binder is also the volleyball coach at Jennica Smith's old high school.

Considering that Jayne IS an alum of UOP, it's not that funny or strange. Wouldn't there be a conflict of interest for her? I know McHugh is an alum... I just find it very odd that she didn't feel the need to coach her team during this scrimmage... noone else finds this odd?

It would be if it were a serious match. I don't think anyone regards the alumnae match as anything more than a very loose exhibition for the current team to get used to seeing someone other than each other across the net and for alums to get together again and socialize. It's supposed to be a fun match. 99% of the time, I suspect the alumnae take pains not to win.

Exactly. It's truly an exhibition match and it's for fun. The boosters love it, because they get to see the girls they haven't seen in a long time play against the current girls. Jayne has always played on the Alumni side, but she'll chime in every once in a while with some coaching tips for the girls. She'll let Dave and Dave do most of the coaching. Mostly, she just has fun with the older players while we joke around and heckle the girls on the other side of the net.

I'm glad to hear Joines was there. Just think how bizarre it must be to go play on the alumnae side just months after you called it a career at that school. Seems like it might be a bit surreal. I think its great for the current players to see their coach, who graduated in the 80's, still able to play, and going at them from the other side. There can't be too many schools that have a current womens' vb head coach who was a former top player at that same school. Most alumni games I've seen have all been in good fun. I also like it better when Spud Boy takes things a little light-hearted rather than getting all serious on us. But, since no one else is answering the question, I will: No, noone else finds it odd.

In the always turning it into a Hawaii thread department...with most of last year's team still on campus, people will show up early this year just to watch the UH alumni match.

She's been developing her team for the last 2 weeks!!! This is just one night to let them play! It's not that serious nor is it that big of a deal for her to play. It's strictly an exhibition match. Her assistant coaches are perfectly capable of coaching them without her for one (very) short match againts a bunch of has-beens.
