Considering Moscovic's statistics and demonstrated abilities and the fact that UF's other setter, Angie McGinnis, is a freshman, it would be difficult to imagine not seeing her on the court at all times in the months to come. McGinnis, however, is not a typical freshman. Wise described the 2004 Miss Volleyball for Michigan as the second-most experienced UF player in recent years in terms of international competition, next to former UF All-American Aury Cruz. McGinnis, along with UF freshman Marcie Hampton, won a gold medal with the U.S. Junior National Team at the Continental Junior Women's Volleyball Championships earlier this month. Despite the level of talent the Gators possess at setter, Wise insisted there is no controversy as to whom will start. "What our goal is, as the coaching staff, is to figure out how we can get them both on the court," Wise said. "They both have strengths that could help us be successful. It's going to be a matter of figuring out in what combination [to use them]." Using the 6-2 formation instead of the traditional 5-1 could be one possible option, Wise said. www.alligator.org/edit/sports/issues/stories/040830volley.html

The article got one thing wrong about the 6-2. The setter doesn't have to come out for a front-row hitter if that setter is ALSO a competent hitter. I recall Greichaly Cepero used to be a front-row hitter/back-row setter out of the 6-2 on the '99 Nebraska team. Same goes for Candace McNamee at Cal from 1999-2001. Stanford won a national champioship in 1995 with two setter/hitters (Sharpley and Wendell) who stayed in for all rotations. In fact, those two were top two in sets, total attacks, and kills on that team.
A lot of HS and club teams play out of a 6-2. It's what you'll find in most open gyms. Anyone know how McGinnis and Moscovic are as front-row hitters?

Cepero played strictly as a RS attacker in 1999. The setters were Jill McWilliams and Lindsey Wischmeier. Cepero was training as a setter in practice that year, but did not take over full-time setting duties until the 2000 season, when NU won the national title using a 5-1 system.

Moscovic was a first team all state with Jennifer Saleaumua and played against her in the state finals. Eventhough Saleaumua had record breaking stats Moscoivc was big also. I saw her play in the NCAA finals and witnessed her athleticism and leadership. Having both on the court in a 6-2 scheme may be a new break through for Wise and for her historical reluctance to trust freshman players and it says alot for McGinnis.

I saw Nebraska play at the NCAA 3rd round in '99. I don't really recall much of Cepero except that she was listed as S/OH.

I think I recall seeing that match where they lost to UCSB and their two setters (neither of them Cepero) looked like crap. Those two setters looked so awful compared to Rundle, Kagawa and Burkholder whose teams were in the same section.

I found my copy of the '99 Pacific Regional program buried in the trunk of my car. It says the 3 setters on Nebraska's roster are Cepero (Fr S/RS), Lindsay Wischmeier (Fr S), and Jill McWilliams (Jr S). I got there a bit late (had to drive all the way from Berkeley), and I didn't pay that much attention to the game. One of the Nebraska fans was interested in what I was eating (a proscuitto sandwich), and wrote it down. Ever tried explaining the concept of cured, uncooked pork to someone from Nebraska?

Nebraska was running a 6-2 with Wischmeier and McWilliams.

I don't care what Florida runs as long as I don't have to see it.
