Oh, I know it. Pretty sure the whole state sees it. I just hope the team sees it. They better come to play. I just hope to see a ton of Husker fans in Carver-Hawkeye! Not sure how much red there will be in there as the football team is playing Wisconsin at home at the same time. But hopefully Huskers in Iowa that aren't driving over for the game will go see that volleyball match. Probably will be the most competitive one we've had in the series.

Alright, so I was able to make it to the Iowa/Nebraska match on Saturday, this was my first time in the arena in two seasons and WOW the new video boards love phenomenal! It completely changes the fan experience from the stands, I was super impressed with the new look, it was pretty amazing.
We broke the attendance record as well! It wasn’t quite 5k but the arena was really decently filled. If we can keep that trend moving upward Carver-Hawkeye could turn into one of the premier viewing venues to B1G volleyball.
Thoughts on the match:
- This was probably the worst I’ve seen us play this season (I didn’t see the Stanford match) so a lot of these thoughts are going to be kind of... negative unfortunately. It just wasn’t a good match. - Second touch, especially by anyone not named Brie was really really bad. I think every set we had a second touch that sailed into the referee or over the net and out of bounds. There were also a lot of miscues between Orr and the offense. Sets were either sent out of place or to attackers that just weren’t there often. - Defense was completely out of whack. I have nooo idea what they were trying to do in the backcourt, they switched to some sort of rotational defense and middle back was rarely in the right spot to pick up deep shots (our block left holes aplenty) and for most of the match Olsen sat straight behind our middle blocker and missed easy shots through the seams. - Kelly looked to be the only player really playing with energy and fire, everyone seemed to be lowballing their efforts (and then Kelly lit a spark at the end, only to finish it with a serve in the net, which I’m sure she felt terrible about). - Passing was not good, attack efficiency was not good, serving was so-so, blah.
Okay... so moving on!
We’ve got Indiana and Minnesota this week. Indiana is obviously a must-win. We haven’t dropped a set to them since 2014 and haven’t lost since 2012. They’re in another down year and I just want to see a W to rebound from Nebraska.
Bond has stated he wants us to just play well against the big four teams and until Nebraska we’ve done that, so we need to get back in our groove against the Hoosiers so we can show well against the Gophers on their home court.

Not always pretty but Iowa taking care of business so far at Indiana. Up 2-0 (26-24, 25-19). Let's finish this out in 3, Hawks!

Hawks in 4 sets. Some inconsistent play tonight but not gonna turn down a road win in the B1G. Let's get after those Gophers on Sunday. Go Hawks!

Yeah it sounds like Indiana has been trying to change things up since B1G play started to get something going. They took Northwestern to 5 and Illinois to 4 so a W against a desperate team on the road is okay in my books. Minnesota is going to be a whole different monster, they gave us opportunities to extend the match last time we played them but playing in their house should wield a much stronger GG team than before.

IOWA 3-1 IND
(26-24, 25-19, 17-25, 25-14)
Claire Sheehan 15 kills .344, 8 digs, 3 blocks Jess Janota 11 kills .214, 4 aces, Taylor Louis 10 kills .237 Reghan Coyle 9 kills .294 Kelsey O'Neill 7 kills .118, 2.5 blocks Brie Orr 6 kills .600, 42 assists, 8 digs Annika Olsen 29 digs!!! (7.25 digs/set) Molly Kelly 12 digs
We out-dug Indiana 73-57 and out-blocked them 9.0-6.0, so it seems like we had them beat in defense and when we get rolling there we can be hard to stop.

Any win in this league is a good win.

Certainly not the most ideal outcome last night, having three straight match points and letting it slip away doesn’t feel good.
We’ve still got a lot of opportunities to collect the requisite wins to make the tourney but we have to be able to bounce back and put away Northwestern tonight. They’re certainly going to come in desperate for a win, and desperate teams are intermittently dangerous.
A win tonight puts a necessary notch in, a loss puts the season in real jeopardy. Gut check time!

Talk about an inconsistent set from both teams...yikes. But at least it ended up with the Hawks up a set. Let's take care of business and get back on track tonight.

Hawks did what they needed to do. Blocked really well tonight. Hope that continues. We'll need that next weekend on our tour through Michigan. GO HAWKS!

And a sweep to end the weekend 1-1 and finish our grueling first half of conference 4-6... which is right about what was expected. We certainly have more opportunities to beat the middle of the pack squads. This win against Northwestern wasn't a beat down and it looked a little sloppy (based on stats), but it's a W. Louis had a great night and Olsen... I mean what can you say, she's a phenom defensively. Averaged 6 digs/set on the weekend, she's just incredible.
Moving forward we need to about replicate this first half in record to ensure a berth in the tourney. Indiana/Maryland have to be two of those wins, we have a ton of solid shots to pick up the other two literally anywhere else.

Some other positives tonight other than the blocking and how freaking amazing Olsen is: - Buzzerio had some nice back row rips. Like utilizing her in lieu of Lou (ha!). Provides some more consistent ball handling yet maintains the offensive threat from back row. - Far less serving errors (Sheehan and Orr, in particular...their errors-to-aces ratios leave something to be desired) - Orr connected with O'Neill and Coyle better tonight and was also bit more selective in calling her own offensive number
Important road trip next weekend. Michigan will be out to get us back and we just haven't matched up well with MSU these past few years. Our serve receive needs to be spot on against Sparty because they just serve lights out and we cannot afford to be out of system a ton against that height.
