I am not going to say what her and Walsh could or could not do because nobody gave them a real shot in 2012 but just saying that I do not see that as what Misty's life is about. For one thing I think she would rather build Olympians now and she seems excited to see where the youth will take the sport. I do not know her personally but I do listen when she speaks and that seems to be the direction she is in. Personally I am glad she went out on top and now just plays a occasional tourney for fun. Too many athletes stay too long and people forget how really good they were in their prime.

Just asking: Could Emily Day have played any better in the semis and final? The huge wrist-away kill to get to match point in the final, followed by the roof on championship point. That was great stuff. Will be fun to see what type of season Emily and Brittany Hochevar can put together once April Ross and Lauren Fendrick get together.

I hope she keeps playing a little every year. You are wrong about 2012 though. They were either the betting favorite or second favorite in London if I recall correctly Great win by Britt and Emily, I expected the final to be a breeze for Larsen/Fint. I guess GLM was right about them being up and down

Is Lauren & April a ton better than April & Whitney? I thought Betsi & Kelly were gonna win the final too
No way did I think Misty & Kerri were gonna win Gold in London. I thought maybe a podium but not Gold. That Semi against the Chinese was unreal. Thought they were toast in that one.
Anyways, not sure if Kerri & Misty even speak anymore let alone play a couple of tourneys together. I friend that lives in Manhatten Beach said she has seen her around once in a while and she is not in any shape to play professional beach VB. Not saying she couldn't get into shape. Just think she is ✅.

Attending Huntington this weekend it's still pretty clear that the men rule when it comes to overall interest in a given match. Few courts not stacked with even lesser known men involved.

Really strange that they didn't play the women's final immediately after the men's. I imagine they lost a lot of spectators who didn't want to wait around for another hour. And the stands looked pretty bare on the live stream.

Love that Day and Hochevar won though

I think thats down to the level of athleticism in the mid to low levels. The men are much more physically dynamic. It can be hard to appreciate a team like Kendra/Marciniak as opposed to a team on the men's side at the same level (say the Bomgrens). In a Bomgrens match - or a Brunsting/Frishman, or some other low ranked team - there will be 2-3 rallies or swings where you just say "Wow that was awesome." Not so much in a lower level women's match. Some can appreciate the strategy and endurance that goes into those women's games, but for me, and I think for a lot of fans, that kind of baseline-type play is hard to appreciate.

I recall that last year after broadcasting the men's finals live, NBC would usually show the women warming up and tell the viewers to watch the women's finals live on avp.com. No such mention yesterday. If I'm a graduating NCAA beach senior and I want to try playing professionally, I'd definitely take notice. Plus, seeing that 3 of the 5 or so top American women skipped Huntington Beach, I'd really think twice about signing with the AVP right now.

If I were an up and coming women's player, and I saw 3 of the top 5 women not play AVP, and I saw the AVP paying massively more than the next best tour, that would make me more eager to play on it. More money with lesser competition. Also putting Summer in the top 5 is a stretch and putting Brooke there is laughable.

Thoughts from an online viewer of AVP this last weekend. Seems like AVP is missing out on obvious stuff at least from their website. 1) If you have a stadium cam and a Court 1 cam, why not give the online viewer a choice of which cam to watch? 2) Waiting soooo long to have the woman's final was dumb (I cannot think of a decent reason why they waited so long, I am sure there is something BUT if not, then AVP needs to hire some good logistical people.) Not as big of a deal for online viewer but must of sucked for fans in attendance. I do not understand why AVP would let their fans wait for a hour plus and give them reason to consider leaving. Makes no sense. 3) I can understand AVP not streaming while they switched to men's final on NBC, but once that was over, why not show some more VB. Heard there was possibly some U-18 or something going on. IF so, why not throw it up for people to watch 4) Why the AVP has the better players, I do like the NVL online as I like how they have a commentator and sometimes 2. Every now and then they offer some nice insight. Without the "feel" of being there, kind of nice to have the commentators talking every so often vs AVP where all you hear every few points is there loud announcer saying the score or something that does not necessarily translate to online. Plus, I like how they somewhat quickly archive their tournaments so you can watch them whenever. 5) Why can the AVP not archive at least some of what they showed? If I caught the livestream why it was going, I could go back and see other matches. If I came back later at night when play was over...nothing to let me watch matches during the day. 6) Player profiles- I was reading through some of them and it was easy to tell they were profiles from 2014 or 2015 in some instances. Oddly, I found this lack of attention to detail (leaving 3 year old player profiles up where they talk about she will be playing with so and so again this year...when that is not happening as 3 year old info), a little odd as again, just a tad sloppy. 7) At least 2-3 times a match, the score shown online was wrong...again a small item but another place where the AVP online experience is a touch sloppy. 8) if you have a few times here and there that are "dead" times in between matches, why not show a Top 10 compilation list of best spikes of 2016, digs...or whatever. Have a few player videos where we get to know some of the mid-level players that we may not know much about. Put together a 2-4 minute piece on something that might be interesting like how the Bomgrens train living in Minnesota or some interesting piece. Keep the viewer engaged vs giving them a reason to sign-off or do something else.
General question. I realize domestic tours struggle financially and I can understand the concern on the AVP's part to keep their best players in front of the fans for their tournaments. With that said, knowing that FIVB is probably going to be more of a priority for some players, why did they schedule AVP Austin on the same weekend as a FIVB tournament? Heard there would be some top teams not playing AVP Austin thus possibly leaving a void of competitive talent at the top.

When there are already clues that the women may not be getting equal promotion or treatment on the AVP?

Keep the viewer engaged vs giving them a reason to sign-off or do something else. 2) This was also a big deal for the online viewer because when coverage stopped at about noon Pacific, I had no idea when the women's final was. They just went dark for about 4 hours. I checked again after the men's finals and just happened to see someone in the chat window mention that the women's finals was scheduled for 4:00. Otherwise I never would have known or bothered to check back. 7) The live scoring page on avp.com was also incomplete and out of date. I had better luck finding results of recent matches on bvbinfo.com. 8) Completely agree with this one. I love DJ Roueche and listen to TNL, but I don't want to see yet another video of unidentified players trying to spell his name. Please do something to promote the players!
