For a sideline reporter with tons of insight as a former player, Blanton adds very little to any broadcast. Spins his wheels with same questions, repeats himself, unfocused/nervous. Ask tough question, Sean nervous since haven't won since 2014? Basics. .

Never thought anyone has done a great job on the sideline. Blanton doesn't bother me much. Wong on the other hand is wrong so much, but just keeps going. I'd like to hear Lambourne.

I missed some of the Men's final, but did anyone hear any mention of Chris & Kevin talking about Kerri's injury? I heard the AVP has asked that the announcers not make any reference to KWJ in their broadcasts. Is the AVP actually allowed to make these requests from Announcers that work for NBC or do they actually work for the AVP? And, isn't that kinda low? Just my two cents.

I think the reason Dain is bad at this is he was a player who wanted to extend his career in volleyball and so turned to this, rather than a volleyball player who happened to have a compelling personality and so was recruited into it, ala Chris Marlowe or John Mcenroe in tennis.
I think very similar to when Karch tried his hand at commentary. Great player, dull announcer, whereas Hov, who had some speech issues, was a much more engaging presence in the booth.

Sideline commentators are about as relevant as the cheerleaders. Was there a particular cheerleader that bothered you too?

Although some of the comments in this thread may be right on, I think you all are not seeing the forest for the trees...This broadcast is going out national; to bring up KWJ's issues does nothing but hurt the AVP and their ratings. People back East and the Midwest live in a different world than out here. They go crazy watching girls in tiny bikinis and guys knocking the snot out of a volleyball, plus seeing the great partying in the stands. Maybe some miss KWJ, but the majority around the country do not. The broadcasters are not necessarily talking to us West Coast diehards who grew up with beach volleyball and, occasionally Marlowe will mention something that hits home with us, but to expect Chris, Wong and Blanton to bring up negative or controversial topics that could hurt ratings is just not going to happen.

Please tell us more of how we "East Coasters" live. What do we do when not "going crazy for girls in tiny bikinis" Are these bikinis something we could bring to our own cities?

I think the reason Dain is poor at his job is the fact that he constantly refers to himself and his playing days. Nobody with a microphone should be referencing themselves. Go back and listen to how many times you hear "I, Me, Myself..." It's annoying. And I agree, it may come from his thought that he can still play.

If not, you just have a voice down there. Dain can speak with experience, that's how it is in every other sport, they all talk about their playing days.
