I believe this is the end of the road for Mick at USC. I went to a practice a few weeks back, and it was a disaster, even by Mick Haley practice standards. His slickness may be catching up to him. There's a backstory to his roster issues this year that really strained his credibility, and that of his staff, with the administration. USC does like to hire their own, so it makes sense to look there first. I can't think of any USC alums at the moment (on the women's side) who fit the bill. I think there's more than one backstory.

He knows USC and its culture and would be a sure winner at USC. He's a sure winner now, recruits lights out, has excellent facilities, is getting paid a ridiculous amount of money in both salary and camp income, and has a high degree of job security. If he left it'd be only because he wants change for change's sake because Texas is a better job than USC right now. USC is legendary program. He would become legendary coach if he goes back to USC and wins more National Championships. Bear Bryant left a great Texas A&M program togo to Alabama for the simple reason "MAMA CALLED".......................well USC will come calling at the appropriate time.

What about Syracuse ? Non conference losses to Grand Canyon, Colgate and to Bryant today don't look good.

Legendary or not (and I'm not sure that term truly applies to USC. The legendary collegiate program in this neck of the woods is a few miles West), in 2017 Texas is a better head coaching gig than USC. If Jerritt were to leave, it would have to be because he was bored or really, really loves surfing. Also, I think even USC would balk at what it would cost to pry Jerritt loose.

Not realistic that he'd move for competitive reasons... would have to be personal.... maybe his Italian beauty queen/model girlfriend prefers LA living?

USC since jerritt left has built the world class Galen Center and practice courts for the players. They built the John McKay center to take care of their academic and tutoring needs and are rolling in the dough from their tv contract. Cash wont be the problem and if Jerritt has a significant other interested in movies, tv and music the move is a no brainer.

USC isn't dipping much deeper into their football money to fund the volleyball coach, that is for certain. There are some donors who would consider opening their wallets for volleyball, but I don't think Elliott is the one they're looking for.

Hot seat got a little colder ... USC beats OU 3-1? Ok, maybe it is still same temp. Women should have pounded OU 3-0.

What about Syracuse ? Non conference losses to Grand Canyon, Colgate and to Bryant today don't look good. Safe for now. I would say that my buddy Garvey sure feeling some serious heat this year. SPU and QU should give him some breading room. I don't really see how new Manhattan College coach will survive. She don't even have AC listed. Not sure if someone actually helping her at the moment.

Elliott would be a awesome fit at USC. Would he want to go back? I suppose anything is possible. Things of note (some of which could be just coach-speak): - Don't believe he showed any interest when the UCLA job opened up - He has young twin boys with his former wife; not sure in which city they live - He has stated several times that he has the greatest job in the country - He has stated that he would never want to have to rebuild another program like he had to at Texas

Have you seen the price tag on a house in Manhattan or Hermosa lately? I can't imagine Hugh leaving what he has in Minnesota for anything right now, especially not for the jump in cost of living that USC is going to be. I live in Hermosa. Anyway, I don't know whether Hugh would take the job or not, I'm just saying he'll be USC's first call. USC certainly believes they can get someone of Hugh's caliber, but on the other hand there's always been more than a whiff of arrogance hanging around Heritage Hall. Geddy - In the past, you have said that USC would go "big game hunting" when Mick retired. But, USC has not done that in other women's sports. In Women's Tennis they hired a D-3 coach. In Women's Basketball, they got turned down so much, they wound up re-hiring the guy they fired 10 years ago. So, what makes you think that volleyball will be so different? BTW, don't take this as a chalange to your knowledge. Just curious on your opinion.
