One of your long time posters had his account revoked by admin here about a year ago for going after Butler and bringing into the discussion the names of people that supported him and still worked with him. Hope that doesnt happen here.

The only point that anyone can possibly argue about this whole sad scenario is that Butler claims he never "sexually assaulted" any of the girls. He claims it was all consensual. He has never denied having sex with any of them, but has fudged the dates to say they were 'of age', not 16-17, as the letters from the players themselves show. But regardless...even if they were 18, the abuse of power, the predatory nature of his advances toward them, it's all just sickening. Especially in light of the fact that he has never acknowledged any wrongdoing on his part. Apparently these young players on his team were just super attracted to him...!

If you have read the notes that RB sent to these women, there would be no doubt. Classic grooming tactics. I am just a little disappointed in the series, they really did not dig in depth into how he manipulated these women by abusing his authority as a coach for his own benefit. He’s still in the business of grooming to this day...parents and girls...that’s rather obvious.

What are these supporters failing to figure out? Just because it did not happen to their son or daughter does not mean the abuse did not take place. My lord, how can people say they don't believe it? 5 women have come forward now and there most likely are others who will not speak up simply because they don't want to be attacked or they don't want to be called liars or they know as in the past, nothing will happen. I'm sorry, you simply cannot read everything in these articles and come to the conclusion this never happened. It would be more believable if these parents would say, I believe they were abused, but I know for sure he never touched my daughter. Even that is better than saying you read all of this and still believe nothing happened. Wake up for God's sake.

I am pleased a newspaper is spreading the information to the community. There is no way you can read the letters, hear the ladies testimonies, read his admission of having sex with them and come to any other conclusion. It blows my mind that local high school coaches went on record to support him because they never heard anything. Perfectly stated. I wish his supporters would all say the same thing before they lend their support. I was never in a hotel room with Rick and one of the girls, I was never in a private one on one meeting, I was never sitting next to him and one of the girls on a bus ride, I was never present when he threatened to submarine their college scholarships....Then support him, but geez, at least admit you simply have no knowledge of the abuse, don't say it never happened because you lose all your credibility when you say that. I guess it's easier to deny it happened than admit you knew and still sent your daughter there to train.

Why has it taken so long to bring this guy down? People were talking about this club and this guy when I was a fan at Illinois more than twenty years ago!

SportsPerformance supporters will lay low for a few days and then we will see the normal deflections and attack the victim stuff from them. I’ve been attacked on here and PVB numerous times over the years for linking RB & SportsPerformance supporters (parents and players) together. But that is how he survives. The volleyball community of ChicagoLand (coaches/parents & yes ex-players) have to be held accountable for supporting this guy. They should wear a scarlet letter! Because they don’t and therefore he survives! Have Addidas ask Carlini why she openly supports this guy? Start there. Have a reporter ask her at an addidas sponsored press conference next time she’s hyping a new shoe. That will get some movement!

I was shocked to read that Illinois freshman Marjike Van Dyke graduated early and went to train with them. Why not enroll early at U of I?? That seems strange to me.

Butler is not the only man who has had multiple women make such charges, but still has enormous backing from a loyal group of supporters.

He highly discourageso athletes from graduating early so that they can play for him at the AAU Nationals as their final tribute to him. He buys them special jerseys and other grooming tactics and makes them feel like a failure if they don’t support his quest. A trophy in his case is more important than a girl’s collegiate career.
