2017 isn't quite closed out yet in my mind. Shame on you for ducking us out here in Palo Alto. I thought there was a small chance we could beat you this year, but then you blow it by getting rammed by Colorado State. That means the jinx is still intact.

I believe this is the first transfer IN to the program since DS Brittany Lee transferred from Purdue after she had red-shirted in 2009 and retained all four years of eligibility. Hope it’s a good one.

"5 other freshman", plus a transfer coming in. That means Lizzie Sadilek must be coming (likely as a walk on) in addition to the five already announced. The big mystery: who is the transfer?

Great HS player! Lets see how she does in the B1G at 5'8 Well so far she has proven everyone wrong. I think she is a more sound setter than Mac, and a very good leader.

O’Leary is solid. Her location is good and she blocks better than her height would suggest. Michigan’s offense is in good hands with her.

If I had my pick of Katarina's off of the Seattle U roster, this is not the one I would go after. Curious transfer. Decent but not great numbers in the WAC. I suspect she will be used primarily for depth at RS but we'll see.

Nice to see Erin O'Leary get her team debut this morning, she looks very solid. Wetterstrom was unstoppable in an easy 3 set win over Oakland U.

Michigan Spring Season Update: UM hosted some decent competition today bringing in Pitt and Northwestern for a 3 team round robin. A talented Pitt squad ruled the day, taking down both B1G teams. Match 1: Pitt 3-2 over UM (25-18; 25-23; 23-25; 20-25; 15-10) Pitt's middles Ndee and Van Buskirk dominated and along with some tough serving and scrappy defense, they held on to beat Blue in 5. Wetterstrom was incredible for UM, recording what I counted to be 27K in the match. She was pretty much unstoppable all day and that bodes well for the team in the fall. But the story of the match, and really the story of the day, was the mid-match switch from Welsh to O'Leary at setter. Down 0-2 and trailing in the third, Rosen subbed in O'Leary for Welsh and her impact was immediate. UM rallied to win the third and pushed the match to five under the incoming freshman's guidance. She played with much better tempo, made solid decisions and the team responded to claw their way back into the match. It's still very early, but we may very well have witnessed a changing of the guard today. Match 2: Pitt 3-0 over NW (25-18(?); 26-24; 25-17(?) We were on a lunch break so set scores are approximate. Suffice to say, NW is a much different team without Abbott and Tashima. Not sure what their freshman class looks like, but 2018 could be a struggle for them. Match 3: UM over NW 3-0 (25-23; 25-19; 25-19) This match was not as close as the scores might suggest. Wetterstrom led the way again with 18K; Skjodt had 12. Welsh returned to finish out the third set, but O'Leary had already made her statement. Observations: - Plenty of opportunities for the incoming freshman class to land a starting spot on this lineup. RS is wide open. Our middles are struggling on offense. We could still use a legit DS. - Defense struggled today. Serve receive was brutal against Pitt. Our block looked good in patches but still plenty of room for improvement. Lerg got better as the day went along but it started rough. - Skjodt's production dropped noticeably when O'Leary came in. The team will need that connection to develop moving forward. If Wetterstrom keeps playing like this, it should open up more opportunities for Skjodt. Those two are a lethal duo at OH. A fun day in A2 today watching volleyball and dodging the Hash Bash. Had a blast sitting with Northern lights , solving the world's problems. Next week the team heads to Grand Rapids as the Welsh/O'Leary drama continues. Go Blue!

Good to hear about O’Leary making a difference. Give her and Skjotd the summer in the gym and I’m sure that connection will sort itself. Skjodt is a smart player and isn’t gonna let a change of setter keep her from having a big senior year.
