"oldknees"! MAN, can I relate to that. Earlier this year (beginning of season), I watched a UF match. Besides T. Hall, & the returning suspects, the One FL player who stood out was Carlton.

Wondering why SO many others did NOT help. Thx!

Carlton is actually a good defensive player. She had four triple doubles and was 1 dig away from a quadruple double last year at UNC. She was 3rd in digs with 218, right behind Taylor Leath. She is also a really good beach player which transfers well to playing good defense. Having her on the court for 6 rotations would also be good for how calm and steady she plays. The last player that I know of who was that tall and played six rotations was Jen Hamson and she was on another level (obviously). Carlton isn’t there yet. Not to mention that her playing six rotations would force her into being a setter (because there’s no reason to put in a front row setter), and setting is the part of her game that needs the most work, in terms of location and consistency.

I watched the match later on replay, however, and I agree with a comment after one of her 10 kills: "Hollyyyyy Carlton! Where would the Gators be without Holly Carlton?" And by that I assume she means that Holly brings another dimension of options to the team that would be sorely missed were she not on the roster.

I just believe that we have better defensive players than Carlton. And I also believe we have better setters than Carlton. And both of those things cancel out the need for her to play back row just because she has done it and can do it. If she continues to work on those areas and moves past other players on those specific skills than yes, by all means, six rotations. But as of right now, I don’t see the pressing need for this. Let her get more experience with her attacking and serving and setting in that one rotation and work from there.

Through 6 conference matches, fans have to be happy with the balance across the board for the Gators. May not be the prettiest volleyball all the time but everyone is making an impact. No one is in the top 10 in the conference in kills and that's definitely a testament to what they're trying to do.
Kills
Carlton- 2.73 kps Hammons- 2.41 kps Hall- 2.18 kps Kellum- 2.18 kps Kramer- 1.91 kps Sokolowski- 1.3 kps

Does Carlton play 6 rotations next year and we continue the 6-2? Or is this the younger Monserez's team in 2019 and 2020?
No setting recruits next year from what I can tell. Probable that we get a transfer however.
Now that I think about it further, would have been great to still have Huskey this and next year in the 5-2. Younger Monserez could have redshirted this season.

I realized today that we have 3 sophomore pins and 1 freshman. We should be pretty good in 2019 and 2020.
