I know this technically isn’t a 2018 topic... but can I just say how yes, sad it will be to see Taylor Louis go after this season... but how excited I am for Kyndra Hansen (who has just popped up on the Senior Ace Top 100 list) to fill her shoes? <iframe width="25.839999999999918" height="3.4200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 25.839999999999918px; height: 3.4200000000000017px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_85661177" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="25.839999999999918" height="3.4200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 25.84px; height: 3.42px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1230px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_33583392" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="25.839999999999918" height="3.4200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 25.84px; height: 3.42px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 111px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_64163364" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="25.839999999999918" height="3.4200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 25.84px; height: 3.42px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1230px; top: 111px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_81506520" scrolling="no"></iframe> Love this! I've seen her play and can tell you she is the real deal.

If I understood correctly, that is a rotating tournament so USC, Creighton and Kentucky will be coming to Cedar Falls one of these years? I'd like to see that. That it is. So it should be making an appearance in Cedar Falls, Omaha, and Lexington in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Don't know the order yet. I sent an email to one of the UNI staffers to see if they could tell me when it was slated to come to CF. I'll let you know if I hear back. Frankly, I might head to Omaha as well when Creighton hosts.

Past hosts were: 2014 - Kentucky 2015 - UNI 2016 - USC 2017 - Creighton 2018 - USC Assuming this is subject to a contract among the four schools, it would appear to have three more years to run in the 2nd cycle.

So USC, Creighton, and Kentucky will be coming to Cedar Falls in 2019

A win over Washington or Colorado would be huge for us, and would definitely make up for the loss to Lipscomb. We had an opportunity for a marquee OOC win last season against ISU and couldn’t pull through. Excited to see progression this weekend!

Ahhh okay. So the design seems to be coming together a little bit more for the fans to understand. According to this Hawk Talk Daily article on Hannah Clayton, AHC Vicki Brown has taken a lot of focus with our middles on blocking and adjusting their hands to the speed of the game. Clayton admits it was a struggle at first adapting to the speed but that Bond and co. did a good job of setting the expectations for her. It appears the lack of a middle attack in the first weekend especially was due to an emphasis on blocking technique and reading. Blocking (along with serving) was one of our biggest weaknesses in B1G play last season so taking the time and care to make our block outstanding seems to be a good move to me. And it's been showing! Clayton has been doing a phenomenal job along the net and will only improve with experience, Jones has been doing a decent job as well. We outblocked Washington 11 - 7.5 so I'm totally fine with us taking our time incorporating our middle attack to allow the freshmen to get blocking down first... we've got time! And it's not like our pins can't handle the load. Louis & Coyle in particular have been doing a great job with their workload, and as the middle attack becomes a more integral part of our offense it'll just open them up even more. hawkeyesports.com/news/2018/8/31/volleyballs-new-kid-on-the-block.aspx?path=wvball

Alright... two tough weekends that we competed fairly admirably in. It’s time to put that work to good effort now and go 3-0 on this upcoming weekend. With Iowa St. and Wyoming still on the slate we definitely need the W’s.

Most would probably scoff at this, but the Drake match could be pretty interesting.

Especially considering it starts 3 hours after the start of the their match before (South Dakota). Could that be right, or is it a typo? Most would probably scoff at this, but the Drake match could be pretty interesting.

I think it's right, but can't say with certainty.

Most would probably scoff at this, but the Drake match could be pretty interesting. That's South Dakota State, not South Dakota. There is as much difference between the Jackrabbits and Coyotes as there are between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. Anyhow, that tournament is just scheduled weird in general 3 hours between start times for two matches involving the same team is way too short a turnaround. Heck, I've seen one match last 3 hours in itself. Eastern Illinois has similar scheduling the day before (playing Drake at 1:30 and then UMass-Lowell at 4:30. I suppose the fact that they're trying to cram 5 different teams in there instead of the usual 4 is part of the reason.

I was a little under the weather this week so Week Two recaps will be with Week Three next week.
Sorry about that. I hope you all enjoy this weekend of matches.
