With so many middles and no depth at the pins (even if someone transfers in to take the starting RS spot) will Texas run a 3 middle offense like they did when Khat and McCage alternated taking swings from the right side? I remember thinking thatbyear their rotation was unorthodox (and admittedly don't have much knowledge on how this would work) but I feel like Minnesota did this too not too long ago.

Texas 2018 Final Four bound "I CALLED IT" I hope so. Expectations will probably be down due to several question marks coming in to the season. However, they still have quite a talented roster, so possible. Perhaps, lesser expectations (not from me) will benefit them. Will be curious to see if someone transfers in. Spring matches should tell a bit about what the plan going forward is. Is one of the MB playing a lot elsewhere?

Outsider here, just wondering if Texas would go with a three middle offense. Minnesota got a lot of mileage out of there middles in 2015 and 2016 using it.

There are many alternatives. The one Minnie ran was, a true MB lines up opposite the setter. She hit/blocked middle all 3 rotations and had a DS in back right (that was MB Molly Lohman). The two others, the Tapp sisters lined up as MBs, each taking swings on the right and in the middle, and were liberoed out.

Minnie used 3 middles, which is a 3 middle offense. It just isn’t a middle triangle, a specific type of 3 middle offense. Just my way of seeing it.

Since I'm here and trusting you are serious, M1 is simply the middle who lines up next to the setter. As is the L1. Which means they are in the front row with the setter for 2 out of their 3 front row rotations. If you aren't serious, this is still true. i try very hard when participating in online message board forums to not pretend to know things when i know that i don't. most of what i know about vb is drawn from watching Texas play. i cannot tell you how many times i have had to google the difference between a 5-1 and 6-2 offense (and i still don't really get it) anytime you want to explain things, please know that i (and perhaps others) am deeply appreciative. A new thread might be a better place to discuss this, but 6-2, 5-1, and 5-2 systems reference the amount of hitters and setters. A 6-2 uses 6 hitters (two opposites, two middles, two outsides) and 2 setters, and a 5-1 has 5 hitters and 1 setter. Last year, Texas played against opponents that each ran these types of systems. 5-1: Most of Texas’ opponents ran this type of system last season, including Texas. 5-2: Florida deployed this system with five hitters and two setters. One setter (Huskey) was strong at the net, so she played in the front row for the other setter (Monserez), who played in the back row. 6-2: Kansas State ran a 6-2 with two setters that played only in the back row and subbed for one of two opposites for her front-row rotations. This system is great for teams with an arsenal of attackers (particularly two OHs that can pass) and two consistent setters that can serve tough. This system has its obvious benefits (i.e., three attackers at the net in every rotation), but there are disadvantages with this system (Ro. 4 s/o, less slide attacks, # of subs). If you want to see a different variation of a 6-2 from last season, check out Penn State’s matches. They ran a 6-2 that featured six hitters and two setters, but one of the setters (Detering) played in the front row as an attacker à la traditional 6-2 setters. Hope that helps!

I think Orie gets a shot back at OH, where she played in HS and much of club.

I will be deleting posts I do not believe are relevant to this thread. I apologize in advance for the subjectivity involved, but there's not much else I can do. I'm not going to wait for a vote. Thank you. I, for one, would vote that you do this in ALL threads! I think it would save everyone a ton of headaches and heartache.

2019 couldn’t come any sooner since that’s when they have some pins coming in Don't get me started. I've been watching Fields and Eggleston with Micaya with them for her senior year. I can't wait.

Butler is a true physical specimen! I think taking this last year practicing and improving footwork and technique will result in you Texas fans being very pleased next year! I can't wait to see how she's improved her slided. Honestly, she should be in the top 5 slides next year with her quickness and air.

Starting Line Up Predictions:
M1 - Butler - what do yall think? M2 - MoJo since she's better at slides
1 - Shook 2 - YBG/Transfer - with DS Autumn 3 - Butler 4 - either YBG/Middle/Transfer with DS 5 - Micaya 6 - MoJo with Petersyn as Libero
IT'S SO UP IN THE AIR. I wonder what they'll do in the spring matches. I need line ups NOW. All I know is that Shook, White, YBG, and MoJo will be starting. Everything else will be up in the air.
