I have been boxing since 14 years of age. Even young we would wear heavy clothing to sweat. It was taught to us. Sometimes I will wear a hoodie with a flannel shirt over top. I am not aware of the problems with working up a good sweat while training?? You were taught wrong. Sweating is simply the cooling mechanism of the body and there is very little correlation between how much someone is sweating and how hard they're working or how many calories they're burning. The water lost when sweating will be replaced once a person rehydrates. Like a car engine, your body works more efficiently when it's cooler. More efficiency means one can do more work before exhaustion sets in. When we artificially heat up our bodies (wearing extra clothing) we can't work as hard as we could otherwise. www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/a19932907/sweating-during-exercise/None the less it is a long tradition in boxing. Some of it just may be that it is what we always did, so you follow. Weight is always an issue. Some of it may just be ego or discipline. Whatever the reason it is common. I am sure most people have seen Boxer's jog in sweat suits. Maybe it is different in gyms today, I can not say.

Running 3 miles today at the track. Every half-lap, I'll do upper body and core exercises. It's going to be tough. Imagine all those push-ups and crunches every half-lap. If I go to the track with chin-up bars, I'll do chin-ups as well.

I've seen people wrap their torsos in saran wrap, garbage bags and anything else to make them sweat more. It's not as common as it once was as there is a lot more education out there regarding health and fitness. However, there are still many who either aren't aware or who are just too set in their ways.

I did 40 minutes of medicine ball exercises. Grueling. Even at 10 lbs, I'm exhausted simply because of the repetitions. What starts out as easy becomes tough as f**k after 45-50 continuous seconds for each routine.

I do not usually fall asleep while watching TV which in theory burns more calories ...

Today is weight lifting day. I have my own routine that is very effective but my wife suggested that I change it up and follow a 30-minute upper body routine she found on youtube. So, because she's my wife and I love her and I'm scared %*$#less of her, I'm going to follow her suggestion.

Split lunges. The worst is split lunges with medicine balls in a kayak motion.

If you exercise routinely please be aware that June 1st in National Donut Day. Yes, you can get a free donut that day from places like Dunkin' Donuts or Krispy Kreme, but you will have to compete with those who have no respect for exercise and crave sugar and fat. IMO, you should be first in line because you are keeping your body in shape, reducing your potential medical costs, and acting as good role models. If anyone deserves a free donut, it is you.

Just bought a new road bike to replace my 94 Trek 750 Multi-Trac. I'm hoping this will motivate me to ride my bike to work on a more regular basis as well as participate in some group rides facilitated at a local bike shop. This will also serve to supplement the running, tennis and lifting I do to somewhat ease the ill effects of poor dietary habits.

I would normally run 5 miles today but after walking hundreds of miles in Rome for over a week, I'm kind of crippled. I'm going to do upper body weightlifting. Beef up my Batman lats.

I have been doing Yoga for a while now. Had bad back pain, and the doctor wanted me to consult with a surgeon. That scared me enough that I took up Yoga. I can not say enough about Yoga and it's benefits. Zero back pain, better mood better everything.

Swimming is always my preferred exercise choice. Burns just as much calories and build muscle tone as a workout in the gym. But being a low-impact activity, it has much less stress on your joints. Helps with the cardio too if you pound the laps long enough. The only thing is that I don't like the chlorine in the pool, but it's small trade-off I can live with.

Strength training day. That means: dumbbells, medicine ball, and lots of chin-ups.
