Any take on Kean this year? They are losing some key pieces, however they have depth. What about New Paltz? Kean will still be a solid team but losing their two experienced middles will hurt them. With Zarzycki, Buseski, and Flor returning as their pin hitters they should be very strong there. They do have a pretty good replacement for one of their middles with Garbowski who can get up and bounce but not sure how he will do with the lack of playing time. Can't forget about Capp who is one of the best setters in D3 and runs the offense very well. They are a mental team though, which showed when they played vassar in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament last year. It will be an interesting team to watch.

With the preseason AVCA DI/DII poll coming out today, here’s how I’d vote in the first D3 poll... 1. Springfield - No reasoning needed 2. Stevens - Is Gabe finally used all his eligibility? 3. Carthage - They’ll stay in the top 5 all season and then lose in the 1st round 4. New Paltz - Return most of the contributors from 2018, Grace’s offenses are always so pleasing to watch 5. NYU - Underperformed in 2018, the experience gained will be a plus in 2019. Lindley and Li will both need to have huge years 6. Southern Virginia - Return all 7 starters from last season, my prediction is that they win the CVC 7. Kean - While they graduated both middles, I believe their libero will be there biggest loss. Will be interesting to see who can fill that role and if Capp can get their two new middles going 8. Cal Lutheran - A team with a lot of potential. Could see them becoming a top 5 team 9. Stevenson - Return 6 out of 7 starters from last season, it will be intriguing to see who starts at setter with Taylor (EMU) transferring in 10. Marymount - Lost 4 out of 7 starters but return both outsides. Safley and Wiles will need to carry this team 11. Vassar - Lost their two best players but return a decent core and brought in a solid recruiting class 12. Elms - Made some noise last season and are bringing back an experienced group, Torres will have to become a consistent player 13. UC Santa Cruz - Losing Merchen will hurt them tremendously 14. Rivier - Return a majority of the core. Losing Bucklin at setter will be a big blow to the offense 15. Endicott - After a solid 2018 campaign, I expect them to take another step forward in 2019

Is Benedictine(IL) going to be eligible for playoffs?

I’ll give a stab at the polls. There’s going to be some hot takes in here but hear me out.
1. Springfield (duh) 2. NYU (best offensive player in d3) 3. New Paltz (good core, possibly best setter) 4. Stevens (may focus too much on ball control and offense may suffer because of it) 5. Dominican (returning solid group, looking to avenge the loss to Stevens) 6. Kean (best setter nuff said) 7. Stevenson (Landon could become the D3 Taylor Sander) 8. Marymount (big physical team) 9. Juniata (solid team with winning culture) 10. Hunter (young scrappy team that might surprise everyone this year lead by Alex Helford) Looking forward to this year. I hope to see some good volleyball.

Since he's getting so much love... it's Alec Helford

Springfield graduates 4 of the top 5 scorers, as well as their top blocker. I'd like to make the case that they are going to get off to a slow start, but The Wizard of Alden Street scheduled an opening stretch of
J&W Baruch Lasell Regis
before they play Marymount at the Hall of Fame tournament and eventually start with competitive matches on February 20 vs New Paltz. Give The Wizard a month of scrimmages and Springfield will be just fine.
ugh.

I still think they figure it out later in the season and ultimately end up winning, again.

Is Benedictine(IL) going to be eligible for playoffs? They will be ineligible for NACC playoffs but I don’t think they are ineligible to win a at large bid to the NCAA playoffs.

Short of Coach Brubaker, I think I have the best sources possible.

I believe those rumors were based on the rumors of him accepting money in men's tournaments, but that would only stop him from playing if LBC had compliance staff who knew (and cared) about that.

Any thoughts on New Paltz this year? How about Naz (will they find a way back or will Fisher become the more dominant team in Rochester)?

NP should be a top 5 team, and from all the word on the streets of Roch City, the Golden Eagles are rolling with an 11 person roster. Real shallow this year. Not sure if England's crew is ready to overtake them yet or not, but after a solid year one, they're making it a discussion at least.

New Paltz will be very good as usual but lose to Vassar again to miss NCAAs. You heard it here first
