So today was my first time I have ever had a kidney stone and let me tell you it was the worst amount of pain I have experienced and couldn’t imagine pain like it. And I haven’t even passed it yet. The pain was so bad I couldn’t make it to the emergency room door without collapsing from pain and screaming. I even threw up and couldn’t breathe cause it was that bad.
I was wondering, have any of you had one and if so, was it that bad? I can’t tell if I was just overreacting or not but I would rather go through stomach flu for a month than go through that for an hour again

Never heard anything good about them, that's for sure.

My dad had kidney stones. He was absolutely miserable. Ended up going to the ER a couple of times for morphine. He ended up getting them blasted using sound waves.

Had an acquaintance in high school who had one while on a cruise. Said it hurt so bad he wanted to jump overboard.

It was that bad. I rather have gotten hit by a car again. I have a tattoo, gotten shots that nurses said make grown men squirm and didn’t budge an inch. I couldn’t breathe or function this morning from the pain. thank god that pain is over but I really hope I don’t end up going back. I don’t think I could handle that again

Yep, it is that bad Hope you are completely over with the pain. My wife had the attack one night. Not knowing what it was, she was sure she was “done”. At Kaiser Emergency, more than half in the waiting room, and as it turned out also more than half already being treated inside (large quantity of beds), were kidney stone cases! Sadly we had to wait a long time before being attended to – because all the wimpy guys who came in after us were screaming and crying and rolling on the floor, and all of them got taken in before my wife. I never knew that my wife had that kind of pain tolerance, when she wouldn’t dare trying acupuncture even once. Throughout the ordeal she refused to scream. Maybe it’s a woman thing, since she had handled child birth (when one time her tight grip almost broke my fingers). Oh, she does scream bloody murder when she sees a cockroach!

I have one of the highest pain tolerances my mom said, my idk if it was cause it was so sudden, early or because I have ever experienced anything like it but it was baaad. Lucky for me the rushed me in cause tbh I don’t know what I would of done if I had to wait.

So an update. I’ve been drinking a lot of water and so far have been lucky. I know the stone is moving but with my pain pills and the medicine to make my tube enlarged so the stone can pass, I haven’t felt pain like I did yesterday, whereas some people I know had to go emergency room multiple times.

Stones are no doubt painful. I passed one once, ended up in the emergency room with a urinary tract infection. Antibiotics saved the day. BTW, there are other stones that are back breakers ...

My husband has had quite a few. His first one was REALLY bad. We were in the emergency room, he was in serious pain and there were a quite patients ahead of us. So he walked up to the desk, threw up all over the nurse and her desk. They got him in right away.
That stone was behind his hip bone, so they couldn’t blast it. Kept him in the hospital for 3-4 days hoping he would pass it. Never did, so they had to go in with a microscopic cherry picker type thing (with a little basket on the end) and scoop it out.
He’s had 3-4 blasted-pees sand for few days, and he’s passed a few at home (screams from the bathroom).
Yes, they are very painful. Similar, or worse than having a baby, evidently.
