They all (slight exaggeration but not much) play for Suzanne in HS along with a handful of 17-2 starters, as well as a bunch of A5 16’s & 15’s. Not surprising that they would switch. That high school team has 20 (?) players that play on A5 1 or 2 teams. Mostly on 1 teams. They won the HS NC and many starters on A5 teams are scorekeepers in HS. It’s bizarre!

A5 is being challenged in Atlanta, TAV is being challenged in Dallas and SPVB faces an interesting future. 3 very big and successful clubs are facing an interesting off-season. I know very little background so this is legitimate curiosity, but does Atlanta Performance even factor in the mix at all in terms of competitiveness or draw in the future?

Less than no factor at all. Many rec leagues get a better draw. Most Atlanta Volleyball fans or players wouldn’t even know what you were talking about if you asked about a club named Atlanta Performance.

despite the hopes of a few, a mass exodus is highly unlikely...none of the A5 coaches are following the departing coach, and the supposed location of the new club is in Emerson, GA, a 1.5 hr drive for many of the A5 families
it is, however, analogous to Drive Nation in Dallas, as the departure seems to be centered around a few of the rising seniors looking to do their own thing

To set the record straight. Lauren Harrison was a Tsunami player before being poached by A5 for her 16 season. Then went back to Tsunami for 17 and 18 season. The 18 team had several former A5 players that switched to Tsunami on their own accord. Emerson will be a good location and will draw players who live farther west than Alpharetta.

I think that this change will have some impact to A5. A5 is Walton HS prominent and, given her position, I could see how she would leverage some girls going to TK instead of A5. To what level....not sure yet. Emerson is a great location for a few reasons (girls playing further west and yet traveling to Alpharetta, they are building up a strong Athletics area there with top notch facilities, right off I-75).
My daughter is now an Alumni of A5 so I won't have 1st hand information about this, however, I will definitely keep an eye out to see how it plays out.

I dont see a mass exodus but another good club for players to have more choices. Atlanta Performance isnt gaining steam what ive seen. That one may die like Atlanta Boom.

This is the main thing to watch. Happened in our area. 40% exodus for “greener pastures.” Over 5 years’ time 35% returned and that Club skips team ages now as they have gaps due to low numbers. During those 5 years both clubs’ parents lamented together at the what-if roster possibilities. My 17 y/o daughter’s final season in 18’s she had the setter she had in 12’s. Hah and smh. Back to A5, my sis is there in ATL with my 11 y/o niece. They say there is great excitement over the shakeup. Probably more about its being less intimidating to walk into a new club than an enormous established one. Feels like a more level court, I s’pose.

Less intimidating and Suzanne do not correlate (although she is an amazing coach). A5 will be fine. TK will possibly challenge the other clubs such as Cobb Atlanta, NAVC, and even Tsunami. How soon will that happen....not quite sure. If you take away the Walton players from A5 that will leave many gaps. Can A5 continue to have the depth to fill those gaps, or find girls outside of the current roster to fill them, I believe they can!

(But newbies with an 11/y/o dont know her (yet).

So it appears from comparing last year’s A5 17 Jing roster at AAU and this year’s A5 18-1 roster that there are only 2 girls left front that 17s team. Six of them, including Gabby Gonzales (Gatorade Player of the Year)Riley McNeil and Alexa Fortin, made the move from A5 toTK volleyball Club. The TK legends18 team got their bid to nationals in their first tournament of the season.
