VolleyTalk vs. the AVCA begins in 15 minutes.
I'd say we did pretty good, given that there wasn't a mass outrage.

Michigan and Marquette end up being the only deviants from the AVCA poll, replaced by Michigan State and Utah.

I’m awaiting the day a school uses our ranking in a press release about where they were ranked compared to the Avca or use it as official stuff like they do with Vball magazine all American list

Pretty sure people are just presuming that Cook had to make promises about back row time to get her to transfer, inasmuch as people have been speculating that that’s one reason she left UT. I have no idea why they think a coach like Cook would do that, even for a player of Sun’s caliber. Just doesn’t compute to me. Guess we’ll see how she does. I think your instincts regarding this situation are spot on. Seems to match up with the following post made by jasonr on the Nebraska Volleyball 2018 thread yesterday (assuming he has actual knowledge and is not just speculating): That's why Lexi and her parents were sold on Cook and Nebraska. He told her that she has the potential to be great, but she's nowhere close yet. That he'd help her become the player she wants to be, but she'll be given nothing. Obviously, she saw the opportunity because Nebraska didn't have a solidified second OH, but it wasn't hard for Cook to distinguish himself from what I heard because her other suitors went with the "you're so amazing" approach.

If you read through this thread, you will see several instances where shhhhhhhhh just completely derails. But to his credit he is hard to kill. He gets back up every time.

How come you let (R)uffda! vote for Minnesota as #1? We know he's incapable of being unbiased. Just ask holiday.

Maybe I'm not watching enough Minnesota matches, but it's always seemed that Hugh isn't very tactical and more conservative in his approach. It's all about minimizing errors and making the other team beat them. The players really don't take big swings out of system, they're not particularly aggressive when serving, etc. I'd say that your "minimizing errors" observation is true, and has been true for MN teams for at least the last 15 years. As I've heard // been told, the stats say that we are better off just getting the ball over the net and waiting for another chance, than taking a big swing out of system and putting it in the net or the chairbacks.

I’m curious to see where Utah ends up this season. The Volleytalk poll put Utah receiving votes at #28, which is about where I put them. The AVCA coaches put Utah up at #19. I realize they had a great run last year and were #11 in the final season poll, but losing a special player like Anae, who carried such a huge load, is not something you can just replace by having a great freshman recruiting class... I will be very impressed with the coaching staff if they can finish the season in the top 20. The PrepVolleyball preseason conference poll (which I found very odd in regard to several team placements) had Utah down in the bottom half of the PAC-12.

Bailey Choy, Dani Barton and Berkeley Oblad all made US national teams this past summer. Throw in a top 30 recruiting class and I can see them being tournament bound and worthy of a top 25 ranking. Being in the bottom half of Pac is inconsequential given the depth of the conference this year. Stanford, USC, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado and even UW and WSU will be a tough top 7 to crack.
