According to Figstats: Hawaii is still at #11 in the RPI rankings. However, because of the results today they have gained separation between themselves and the teams behind them. San Diego's win against BYU elevated them in the top 25 thus providing us another RPI top 25 victory.... Whether or not San Diego will remain in the top 25 though; I'm wary they will because of their remaining schedule.

What are chances that Hawaii is top 16 seed and hosts? At the moment, if they win out, Hawai'i could have a top 16 RPI. Possibly around 12. However, that doesn't guarantee a seed. The selection committee can look at other factors. A Hawai'i subregional involves more travel and costs. Although Hawai'i could make a case they'd fill up the Stan and that might actually turn a profit for the NCAA in a sub-regional. Something they probably aren't used to. If the Wahine win out, I believe they will host. Amongst the teams that could be in Hawaii for the 1st round are a PAC12 team, Pepperdine, and maybe even New Mexico St or a Conference Champion from one of the smaller conferences. So travel cost will not come into play that much.

If the committee sends BYU here; that would be unfortunate....

If the committee sends BYU here; that would be unfortunate.... Hawaii should root for Utah to host. Then BYU will almost certainly go there bc BYU would be a drive-in. Right now, they're 19 in RPI Futures, so probably just miss being a host. That's with a 21.4-9.6 record. Their final games are Washington, Stanford, Cal, Oregon State, and Colorado. If they win 3, they'll have a 22-9 record and might sneak in. They have wins over Kentucky, UCLA x 2, USC x 2, Washington, and Washington State. If they can beat Washington or Stanford, they'd have a really good chance of hosting.

The Wahine RPI could go up next week, even with the Wahine being idle this week. UCLA beat CAL, 3-0, and San Diego beat BYU again, in 5 sets. These two wins will definitely help the Wahine RPI. That UCLA victory kinda helps UCSB as well. And San Diego over BYU will help UCSB too.

If they can avoid any upsets and defeat Cal, I think they have a great shot at hosting. I just dont want to see BYU sent here; I'm still scarred from that 2013 beatdown.

After watching BYU tonight, not sure why some want to keep placing them up on a pedestal. Once USD stopped shooting themselves in the foot, they were too much for BYU to handle.
If Hawai'i fans expect their Wahine to advance past the 1st and 2nd round they too are going to have to play consistent, low error volleyball. When they do, they win. Their record has borne that out. Bring on the good teams, and meet the challenge. That's what tournament time is all about.

I put more weight on RPI Futures than figstats, though at this time of year, it's pretty close (if you either ignore the RPI bonuses or calculate them yourself and assume that any team on the bubble will give the lower bonus). If you look at home-away modified RPI, Utah is 18 and BYU is 17. Utah will get a Top 25 bonus from Kentucky and Washington. It's not clear if they'll get a Top 25 or Top 50 bonus from UCLA x 2 or USC x 2. They should get a Top 50 bonus from Cal Poly and Cal (if they win). They should probably get a Top 50 bonus from WSU. No matter if you use unmodified RPI, figstats w modified RPI, or RPI Futures, BYU and Utah are on the bubble so there's probably a decent chance that one of them will host. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Well, UCSB just took a big drop to #34 in Figstats, and are now below #30 Cal Poly. I hope they can recover, win out, and keep their hopes for an at large alive.
