No clue as to what happened, but USC wins 17 to 15. Come on UCLA, it's your turn tomorrow night.

Take heart. Stanford had made it too multiple Final Fours before they won their first national championship. Don Shaw was referred to for a while as "the best coach to have never won a national championship". You just never know what's going to happen. In all seriousness, I wish Washington well, they have a great team. Florida has been to by far the most Final Fours without winning a Final Four. Not even Stanford went to seven before winning one (I don't think, I might be wrong).

Most DVD players will play either DVD-R or DVD+R.
Its the -RW and +RW formats they have problems with generally.

Do you think the seedings favoring the east coast had anything to do with Florida getting to that many final fours in the past (last two years excepted)?

Do you think the seedings favoring the east coast had anything to do with Florida getting to that many Final Fours in the past (last two years excepted)? I'd say there is almost always at least one team that makes it to the final four because of "favorable scheduling". The Gophers last year had the easier route in the regionals last year since they didn't have to face USC, Florida, or Hawaii. OTOH: They had one of the tougher sub-regionals with UNI and UCSB in it so they had 3 straight tough matches in order to get to the final four. If UNI or UCSB had one that sub-region they would have had 4 tough matches in a row to get to the final four since they faced each other in the first round.

USC played much much better tonight than when I saw them play at Cal a few weeks ago. Their libero got some amazing digs. Washington started Sanja Tomasevic after a long injury break. She did well enough, but not close to where she could be with a couple of more weeks of practice. One good news for the Huskies is the emergence of freshman Alesha Deesing. I have mentioned her early this season as a future star. Tonight, she was put in half way into the 2nd set and finished with: 15 kills (0.467) with 7 blocks. She was one of the big reasons Washington was able to win games 3 and 4

even though we lost. i feel better about the future games with sonya now back

So if UCLA knocks off UW tomorrow and USC and Stanford both win, who gets the auto bid from the Pac-10?

So if UCLA knocks off UW tomorrow and USC and Stanford both win, who gets the auto bid from the Pac-10? UW wins any tie-breakers vs the other teams; but don't worry, UW will beat UCLA and win the Pac-10 title outright. The emergence of Freshman middle blocker Alesha Deesing was the highlight of the evening for UW.

USC's middle tandem has been great all season and they were great tonight. I think the big difference maker were the plays of USC outside hitters and their much improved floor defense and block coverage. Keao Burdine, Sarah Florian and Stacy Venski more than held their own. Debora Seilhammer was fun to watch.
As for the Huskies .... When Sanja got hurt, the team quickly adjusted by moving Christal from the right to the left. She also took over Sanja's passing duties. Kaitlin Leck did a great job coming in as the new right side hitter. In tonight's game, for the first time in several months Sanja was back on the left and Christal started on the right again. In the first two sets, it looked like the team was still adjusting to this new arrangement. Sanja and Candace Lee, the libero, seemed to bump into each other and go for the same ball a lot. Christal, who was very effective hitting D's earlier this season, struggled to find the ball. In addition, USC blocking and defense put a lot of pressure on Washington middles as well as our big hammer Brie Hagerty.
In the middle of the second set, the Huskies was trailing by something like 8 points or so, Jim put in Alesha Deesing, a freshman middle who has only played in 3-4 sets this season. He also put Kaitlin Leck in for Christal. These substitutions seemed to slow down USC's momentum, although they had a big enough lead to take the set.
From the 3rd set on, Washington played with yet a different line up: Sanja and Christal on the left, Kait on the right, Darla and Alesha in the middle and Courtney at setter (of course). This line up fared better, despite the challenge of adjusting to yet a new line up. Alesha's presence in the middle, in my opinion, help free up the outside hitter a bit. At the end, USC was able to string a couple of cruicial points. Washington had a chance to win it at 16-15, but a cross-court hit went wide.
It must be hard to have to adjust and readjust the line up, especially when you are playing a team like USC. However, I believe that this will really pay dividend in the play off.

Despite the loss, the Huskies guarantee themselves the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Washington already clinched at least of share of the Pac-10 title last week and a win in tomorrow's final match vs. UCLA would make them the outright winners. A loss could put them into a tiebreaker situation with either USC or Stanford but with two game victories tonight, the Huskies would get the automatic bid into the postseason tournament based upon the Pac-10's tiebreaker rules.
